Engineering could ask Techs to record the engine number so they can track what plant it was assembled at. From there, who knows what a fix would be. Valve replacement? Cylinder head? Expensive either way.
Honda has a safety recall for Pilot connecting rod bearings. Guess what we get to do. Yup. Remove all the rod bearings, place in a box and take photos for engineering while they conjure up an updated bearing kit for replacement. Ford might require some teardown to determine what direction to go in.
all that's been done already.

Didn't want to necro the 2.7 engine failure thread but it looks like Ford is finally looking into what a lot of us all assumed when some of these started failing. Nothing new to discuss other than what it says in this release. Just a high level read of the announcement tells me they will likely come out with a program to check specific vehicles (no idea what kind of "test") and/or possibly come out with an M program to extend engine coverage on specific build date engines. Don't hold me to this as it's just me thinking out loud based on the vague statement they just released.

Thanks Flip. Is that all the info they have? Any reference number? What would a customer say when they call the number?

BTW, what is the current oil change specs (6 or 7 qts) and what is the current dipstick part number?

Nope. Should be 6 qt, current p/n is FT4Z-6750-C.

I have an unbelievable amount of work to do on that thing. I would have it worked on by a real mechanic while I am stuck here in Florida, but I don't know any that I trust to do the work unsupervised in Texas.
I’m sure Tyler can fix you up! 😉

My Engine was right on the worst failure date but so far after 23k miles, been nothing wrong with it.

Be curious as to how they roll this one out

Mine too, I'm at 40,000 miles. FPP tune, mostly running 91 in it. I press that pedal to the floor often.

My FE engine build date was smack dab in the middle of the "Hot Zone" date range. Will be 3 years come November and 20k miles with no problems so far. I suspect that this will probably also spawn a "warranty extension" program for additional coverage even if your engine passes the initial test.

That's what I'm thinking as well, and it will then force me to think about putting Ford performance tune on it since that would wipe the whole thing out. Ugh.
