Took my 2022 Wildtrak to the dealer on Friday to get the wiper motor software update and the rear window defrost connector repaired as it had become detached from the rear window. The dealer was able to quickly update the software and then informed me that Ford was requiring the rear window to be replaced instead of simply reattaching the wire.

The dealer said they were ordering the glass, and it would take 3-5 days to arrive, so out the door I went expecting to hear back from them later in the week. Later that afternoon the dealer called me and said Ford is denying the warranty. They provided no explanation as to why and that maybe if we wait two weeks, they might approve it.

As everyone here knows a quick search on this forum or any internet browser will bring up dozens of examples of this issue which is clearly a poor design by Ford.

Extremely disappointed with how this is being handled and that is being dragged out as I had planned to switch out to my Bestop soft top for the summer, I know “First World Problems” but really expected better from @Ford Motor Company

This is disappointing. Curious, how did yours get detached? Are they just falling off on their own or after making contact with something? Agreed it’s a very poor design and I think Ford is thinking the more they warranty, the more exposed they’ll be to have to replace rear glass on more cars on their dime. I wouldn’t tap out.

2023 BD 2 months in and it detached by itself. Dealer had to order a new glass. Lost $ with expensive tint. Left it as is. I’ve read it is not uncommon for this to happen. Wanted to fix it myself but it voids the warranty.

Should be covered (3yr/36,000) unless evidence to the contrary like visible damage to the connector or broken glass.

Dealer says they need me to bring it back up for more pictures and then we wait for @Ford Motor Company to make a decision. Agree it should be covered. Unfortunately this seems like a common issue.

There's a kit to repair the terminal available, I've also replaced rear glasses under warranty for this concern. This is the dealer not Ford.

Ours broke off on the driverside very early in ownership. The dealer said they were ordering a Ford Repair kit.....??
We took our Bronco in when the "kit' came in. Dealer said it was wrong part. They ended up using the Permatex glue from the auto parts store. It has held for a little over 2 years. Good so far!
It was fixed under warranty.

Should be covered. Poor solder job. If the metal was pulled from the glass or connector broken I could see where they could deny it and say you snagged it on something. In your case the solder completely let loose from the metal strip on glass. Fight or DYI repair.

If the Permatex 21351 is anything like the kit used to mount the mirror tab to the windshield, make sure to follow the instructions. The surfaces need to be cleaned first then an activator applied and then the 2 part conductive epoxy. Don't touch for 24 hours.

Ours fell off pretty early on. Dealer soldered it back on, I was prepared to say no thanks to replacing the rear window and try the permatex stuff.

Had it happen to our '87 Escort GT and they replaced the glass and it leaked from then on.
