Was able to finally take my stock base Bronco off roading while on my honeymoon in Red River Gorge! The trails were pretty simple but still super cool and had some steep slippery inclines, water crossings, shallow muddy ruts, and some very small obstacles.
The trails were called Lairson Road and Bald Rock Fork Road and aren’t too far away from Natural Bridge in Rogers, KY. On OnX off road the trails are listed as 1 and 3 respectively.
My take aways…
1.) Super impressed with the base Bronco! Like I said before there wasn’t anything too crazy but there were some muddy ruts and some super slippery and steep inclines and I never felt unsafe in the Bronco at all. At one point I had the Bronco tilted sideways at 14 degrees and I felt like I was looking at the ground from my driver side window. There was a Toyota Sequoia that had some BFG KO2s on it that was behind us. At one point they got stuck on a steep inclines and couldn’t make it all the way up due to articulation issues. We made it up without even the tiniest if tire slipping.
2.) Shout out to OnX Off Road. The app made it super simple to find the trails as well as navigate them. Had no issues at all when navigating the trails.
3.) I want some 33” A/T tires very soon! The stock Duelers actually really impressed me though and handled everything without issue. I would also like some steel underbody protection.
4.) After the above are added on, I want to start doing some slightly more difficult trails! I know I have a base so I can’t do anything too crazy but after not having any issues at all today I think some bigger tires and underbody protection would be all I need to do something a little more challenging.
It was nice to finally get my Bronco dirty and I can’t wait to do more!
