eBay Skid Plate Kit - junk or decent quality?

There's a full underbody skid plate kit on eBay for $375 for the 6G Bronco.

The ARB kit is twice the price, but I well-known product and trusted brand. Is it worth the price? Will the eBay kit stand up to North-East forest trails, water crossings, rock beds?

I asked the vendor about the thickness and if it’s for the 2/4 door and engine size. I don’t think he knows honestly, just drop shipping, imo.

If I had to piece plates together, can you recommend the most important parts to protect, a decent brand that won’t break the bank.

I dropped a lot of $ so far and I’m balancing between smart purchases and protection versus cost.

Looks as good or better than the stock steel bash plates that caved in on me and broke my steering rack motor off. One sure problem is it doesn’t mention if they’re for 2 or 4 doors, or 2.3 or the 2.7 auto or whatever config has the goofy trans crossmember brace

The biggest issue that I have had with all of the skid plates with the exception of the iag front skid plate is that they all leave the front lower control arms mounting tabs exposed for damage. I'm currently running the full iag skid plate kit with exception of the axle skid. They have served me well but I'm either going to have to replace the front skid or bend it back into shape again. The factory skid plates didn't do much for me.

David, first, welcome to the forum. I’m a Badsquatch owner with full factory skids. For a variety of reasons I was thinking of buying a Wildtrack a number of months ago. Like you, skid plates were on my mind. When I was looking, first I wanted to know the thickness of the skids. I looked through your link and didn’t see a thickness anywhere. If it is there and I missed it, sorry, just make certain it is thick enough to withstand your intended use. Second, I wanted to know who/where it is made, if possible. As a minimum I wanted a reputable vendor in case of issues. Do reviews exist? And this is just me, but through personal experience, I’ve found that nearly every time I’ve went w/ the cheapest, I‘ve regretted it and ended up buying something I should‘ve bought first time through. I believe you can get the Ford factory skids for $650 on sale which work quite well for most of us.

I suppose though, if you can afford to replace them in the future if they don’t work out and are willing to take that chance, why not?

The kit looks like it will fit 2 and 4 door regardless of the engine. The only difference between the 2 and 4 door is the gas tank skid. The trans skid looks like the type that fits between the crossmembers if yours is a 2.7.

All that said, the ARB kit it is cloning are only 3mm (1/8") aluminum. That is pretty light duty if you plan to hit rocks. For the price they are selling them for, at least 1/3 of that will go towards shipping. So $250 worth of aluminum skids in 4 pieces is extremely cheap. I wouldn't expect them to 1-to fit well. And 2-Hold up any better than the thin steel OE counterparts. If it were my money, I would consider them throw-away if I did encounter any serious off-roading. If the plan is just for looks or gravel roads, I think they would hold up OK, as long as you can get them to fit. YMMV
