If you don't like the look, a lot of people have been sticking them behind the fuel door.

Here is a post from @BroncoSarge from a few years ago...
Yeah, that's where the one on my Mustang is, hah. I don't mind the look on a vehicle like the Bronco.

Yeah, I betcha it was a software limitation, and it didn't make sense to change it for a single vehicle, especially now that most people probably use the FordPass app instead of the keypads.

Also wouldn't be surprised if the security system freaks out if it's expecting a wired keypad to be connected and it's not. Or maybe the keypad becomes unpaired when it's disconnected. Who knows.

I do know it requires programming if you swap the wired keypads, it's not just a simple remote. So there is some brains behind it.
I read that Ford is removing them from a vehicles from the factory and making a dealer installed option only. I assume it's because they are no longer something Ford calculates makes them money anymore with mobile apps and what not.

Yeah, Bronco never had it, but starting last year they began removing it from vehicles that previously had the keypad.

Just anecdotally… of the 9 Ford owners at my family’s 4th of July party last year, only my uncle-in-law and myself use the keypad regularly. Most people (including my wife) didn’t know their code. Heck a few had the keypad and didn’t even know it.

I betcha it’s one of those things that the vast majority of people never use. Yet the small group of people who do use it love it.

Moved my factory installed keypad from the front door to the fuel door the day after I took it home

I want a door keypad on my '24 Bronco. I've had a door keypad on every Ford I've owned (except my Mustang, which is reasonable) for 25 years, and am disappointed that Ford has stopped putting them on.

I know I can buy one to stick on, but I read that there is a "dealer installed" option that is actually hard wired rather than battery powered and has more functionality. Is that correct?
Mine came from the factory and even it is a stick on version. There is no hardwired keypad on a bronco.

When u add it on only comes in black, my dealer painted it to match like factory installed.

Yep, being able to access my car randomly just by having the code is nice. Before touch to lock, it was also nice to be able to lock the vehicle with the keypad.

I camp, hike and do water sports, and it's also very, very nice to be able to leave my key in the vehicle (hidden and in a separate lock box) instead of risking losing it when I dump myself in the lake, lol.
Agreed. When kayaking I have to find a place to keep the key fob dry and secure. Also when racing (marathon/triathlon) it would be nice not to carry the fob.

I read there is a way to config the keypad without the dealer, it involved going though a list of codes, something like that.

I bought the black stick on version and put it inside the fuel door as mentioned previously.
I keep lots of tools in the back of my Bronco, so I use it quite a bit if I need to unlock and grab something. I can also lock it back without opening doors. Much quicker than the phone app, although that is another good way to get in in.

That’s exactly how a salesperson at our local dealer explained it to me. I was told about 10% of buyers use the factory-installed keypads. Like many here, I find that surprising as I use it all the time, but there you have it. That’s across all Ford’s model lineup, BTW.

My spiel when telling someone about it---- You are outside in the yard/garden working with dirty shoes. You want your hat or sunglasses out of your vehicle but don`t want to get cleaned up to go up 2 flights of stairs to get the keys. punch the code in and you are done.

@Ducati1098 -- Do you know if the DIO part number can be used on a 24 instead of the accs number ?

I could be wrong, but I don’t think DIO items have specific part numbers. I thought they just used the normal accessory part numbers since they’re the same thing.
