I'm at the younger side of the Gen Xers and a good majority of us drove manuals. Plus in almost every foreign country I've been to, manual transmission is the norm.
I'm actually surprised to hear that. Good for you!

And yes, very useful when renting cars overseas.

I guess I should add, where I grew up, rich kids drove autos, us riff Raff had to learn on MTs, so it's a very antecdotal statement. Plus most immigrants can drive MTs.

Here's an example, although it doesn't have a light. That confuses me a little, what the light is for.
I've heard stories of things like this beeping. BHPH and new dealers in sketchy areas will do amazing things.

I tend to think the people in the U.S who will steal/carjack your Bronco have no idea how to drive a manual. I bought my Bronco used just over a year old with 9K on it. The sales guy - and this was his profession - who appeared about 30 yr of age did not know how to drive a manual.

VERY useful. A buddy of mine just went to Scotland this week for 3 weeks, and sent me a picture of his MG rental--a stick, natch.

I actually get a little concerned taking my bronco to the dealership for oil changes, and whether or not the person picking up my car knows how to properly drive a manual! 🤣

True, I think the odds are in our favor.

30 year olds are millennials. No hope for them! Lol! My service tech has to have an old guy from the back bring my bronco to me for that reason as well!

Same. Also at the car wash or when I take the wife somewhere nice and we valet. I'm always glad to see a Paisa working there because I know he'll know how to drive a MT.

In my area, paisa is short for paisano (Spanish). Refers to someone from the old country in Latin America (not US born or raised).

Here's one for ya: Back in '95 I learned to drive a stick on an '82 Ford F-250 with granny gears and a very stiff clutch. You had to push the clutch in about a foot and a half (J-shaped) and my mother had to stand on it for it to go down, it was so stiff. It would also spin third gear, so going into third was always an adventure. Six inch lift, '81 Ford Ranger cab, straight six Mustang engine, homemade cattle killer bumpers and roll bar. Really a beast, wish I still had a photo of it. My dad just came home with it one day...

It was so different that when I tried to drive a couple mid-90's Rangers with a stick, I literally couldn't. One of those was in mountainous Seattle area, and one time I rolled into a car at a red light. I had never learned to drive a soft clutch (eventually I did and have had three manuals, including a Jeep).

That would be funny, if I would've taken that in. I got it inspected and the guy just took my word for it. It was sort've it's own defeat device.
