DIY 4/7 pin trailer wiring

I’m trying to figure out the best way of adding the 4/7 pin wiring along with the brake controller to my rig with halogen lights.

I like this Tekonsha kit

But that wiring kit looks to only work with the LED lights

It looks like these apparently work with halogen lights - Tekonsha 118867 or Curt 56471, but those are both 4-pin

I also saw there’s this 4/7 option from Ford, and since the page doesn’t specific LED vs Halogen, I assume it works for both. Is this one a good option? Any issues with installing the brake controller with this kit?

Curt makes a 4 to 7 conversion. You plug your 4 into it add a hot and ground all that's left is reverse if you want it. Costs $30. You can get it with 7 only or 4/7. They also have a wireless brake.

Go with the Ford parts that you need to complete your tow package depending on what model year your Bronco is. It's all plug, play, and program unless you have a 2021. 21's are a little trickier.

This is the same kit components they used at the factory. Kind of an annoying install—have to re-pin a few of the factory connectors. But it'll give you an OEM-like installation when all is said and done.

Go with the Ford parts that you need to complete your tow package depending on what model year your Bronco is. It's all plug, play, and program unless you have a 2021. 21's are a little trickier.

Yes, trailer brake controller is plug and play. I recommend installing the brake controller before you have the tow control module programmed.

Yeah I’m in the market for a pop up or a frame so I got one and installed the 4 to 7/4 this morning. I routed the hot wire under and then the Curt echo brake controller powered and paired ok.

I had my preferred mechanic install the 4 pin ford package.

It appears to work.

I used the hot I ran for my Curt four wire tow light kit. It's battery hot, I'll probably switch it to key on hot if I start towing much 7 wire stuff.

Can you tell me which pin tool you used to remove the existing ones. I am working on the larger 2-brown and blue. Thanks!

Jumping in on the Echo - I have one and hated it. It's OK in a pinch to get from point A to B if needed, but if I ever decide to tow something with brakes regularly in my bronco, I'm going with a real controller.

Hi, looking at you bio, you have a 23 Wildtrack. Unless you are working on someone else's truck, I don't believe you should have to re pin your plugs. In any case it's been awhile since I did that but I think it was a matter of adding pins to the plug and not removing any. If you are working on a 21, I did a very thorough video on my YT channel "It's The Carrs!" where I go into detail on how to do this. I highly recommend watching this because I found a huge mistake in the instructions regarding pin locations.
