There’s numerous threads about removing the rings (for painting and such) and how people said they’d never remove the rings again because some get cross threaded and such. Are the people that are removing the rings for tire replacement having this issue?

What I think the issue is the thread locker. It's hard and threads are filled with. I hit the bolt and hole with a thread chaser. It made a big difference.

Has anyone else had trouble getting tires mounted on your Bronco? I ordered my tires from @discounttires like I always do.

They said they couldn’t mount them over my orange trim rings with tearing them up and they couldn’t get the rings off.

I was under the impression that tire shops could mount tires right over these without removal. Is this correct? Do I have to pay huge $ for tires at the dealer?

Trim rings are a piece of cake to take off and put on. First time off is the hardest. I didn’t go lazy so I did not use an impact gun…no power tools. Every one came out with no issue by hand. Chase the threads on the bolt to remove the worst of the loctite, I ran a tap into a few the rim holes but I stopped because I don’t think that is really needed.

I reinstall all the bolts by hand, started with my fingers then spun them in using the torx bit in an extension till I need to use the wrench. My rings have been on and off half a dozen times with no issues. If the torx bit slips and you ding up a bolt head or gets galled up a bit just toss it in some Birchwood Presto Black and they are as good as new in seconds.

My DT said they were worried about the factory loctite and stripping the trim ring bolts. I brought them home and loosened them with a 3/8 rachet one handed.

So, on a set of KMC wheels with beadlocks -

I took mine into a local shop to have the tires done, they have done plenty of off-road rigs.

Mine were all torqued at 32 lb-ft, I was pretty good about checking them. No loctite.

Yeah, they used an impact. Stripped out about 4 or 5 of them. And didn't tell me about it, I found out my next round of checking the torque like I do when I rotate tires.

I didn't make a big stink about it - just fixed the stripped threads and carried on. But that shop won't be getting any more of my business.

I just had Hankook Dynapro 37 12.50 17's put on at the local tire shop. I came back later to pick it up. $ 250.00. They did remove the lock rings. About 1/4 of the torx screws were not installed completely though. He stopped as soon as they got tight- said he did not want to strip them out. As soon as I got home I removed each screw-chased the threads and had no problem installing them after . Most just had the loctite gummed up in the threads.

I switch out to studs in the winter. Ford actually has in print that Squatch trim rings do not need to be removed for changeover. My tire shop knows this and removes them anyway, and rightly so in my opinion. The other day I removed the rings myself before my changeover.
Oddly, I kinda like the way they look without the rings!

That's what I did with mine.... I took the rings off to get powder coated, then wire wheeled the bolts to remove the loc-tight, and put a dab of never-seize on each bolt. Also blew out the holes in the wheels with compressed air. Now, once you crack them loose, you can spin them in & out with your fingers. No idea why Ford puts loc-tight on the threads for that application. If/when I ever do tire work, I'll remove the rings first myself, out of caution.
