I was working to remove the torx screws to get the bumper end caps off with a T40 bit. They are so tight the driver slipped and stripped the torque nut.

Now what?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance! Michael

The bolts are Torx plus, not regular torx. Very easy to strip if the correct socket isn’t used.
What the difference between Torx and torx? I was using a T40. Is this wrong?

You should be using a TP40, which is a torx plus. They’re close, but they are different and using the wrong once can cause issues like you ran into.

You may be able to get a pair of vice grips tightened really tight onto the bolt head to turn it out. Really depends on how stuck they are though.
Personally I would at least try this before drilling it out just because if it works, it’s a lot easier.

Just my two cents here. I ALWAYS break things loose by hand, never with a gun. Especially weird hardware like the torx. You can use your gun after it’s cracked loose (unless it’s insanely tight even then cheater pipe)

I have a set of special sockets for stripped out Torx and hex bolts that works really good, so I’ve never needed to try an extractor.

Similar to this, but I have a whole set:
