I have a cordless impact to keep in vehicle to make changing a flat a little easier. My question is does anyone know how long a fully charged 20 volt battery holds a charge ?
i know it can’t hold a charge forever. Do I need to make sure it’s fully charged every week, 2 weeks, etc.?
Appreciate any advice

I have had a problem with the Dewalts (specifically the Flexvolts), they seem to fail in less than a year when they are fully charged and then stuck in the truck. We carry them for chainsaws at work. I have gotten to the point to cycle them on a battery charger once every few weeks.

I like the Milwaukee "Fuel" 18V tools. The batteries seem to last quite awhile with a charge. I would get two batteries and just swap out batteries every so often. The Fuel model batteries have a button on them to check the charge. Press the button and it tells you how much charge is left.

Fully charging any Lithium battery damages the cells. Dewalt also has the push button battery level indicator. Charge them to 70-80% and check it every 4-6 weeks. You could change all the lugnuts on 3 Broncos with 40% charge on a 20v 5ah Dewalt battery. Same for Milwaukee 18V. Both great systems.

I'm a Makita LXT guy.. I've found LXT batteries in the house not used in probably a year and they still show full charge... I wish Makita would update the LXT battery, but they do last.
I've got a bunch and, although I have rapid chargers, I do use the SLOW charger to have less tear on the cells. Just my 2¢.

My cheap harbor freight impact battery goes months with no problems loosening lug nuts.

I have a ton of Dewalt 20v tools most of which came with 2ah batteries. I started buying 3ahpacks when replacing.

I will have to look for the 1/2" impact tool as I doubt my drill sized DW impact would handle the job

I keep Dewalt 20v in my work vehicle and it looses 50% charge a month in FL heat.

I did the lug nuts on an f350 and my braptor on the same charge maybe 2 weeks apart? Still showing full battery. This is a milwaukee fuel 18v impact with a 5ah battery. I am curious how it holds up if I leave it in the vehicle but I'm sure its fine (you have to think about all the contractors that leave their tools in their work vans and trucks)

My Rigid batteries have Bluetooth on them. You can use the app to check their charge status. That might be handy for a battery you keep locked up in the Bronco.

They are a couple of years old and I don't know if Rigid still has that feature.

That would be true if you had no BMS or you setup the BMS wrong. Neither of which is possible with the batteries in question.

Really? You think Tesla doesn't have a good BMS? But thier instructions are to not top off batteries unless you're going on a trip where you need the extra juice. But hey do you.

I guess lug wrenches are out of style.

Im disabled and need all the help I can get. I had a flat on pickup years ago and couldn’t break the lug nuts free with the supplied lug nut wrench, because the mechanic that rotated my tires used an impact to put the tires back on.
if I’m going to be out in the middle of a desert. I want to know that i have tools that can do the job.
