Changing Muffler void warranty?

Hey all! I just got my 2023 Wildtrak a month ago and I’m starting to make some changes/upgrades to it. I am worried to change certain things to void the warranty I have (I purchased the extended 100k) is there anythings I shouldn’t mess with on it? And will this or a cat-back void my warranty? No, it shouldn't, BUT if you go to a crappy dealer they can attempt to tie almost anything to it to try and not pay on a warranty claim.

The general guidance is that the service department has the burden of proof that the mod caused the condition they don't want to cover. Poorly run service departments could still give you the run around, though.

Nope, just means that your new muffler/exhaust is now covered under that manufacturer's warranty where applicable. Some squiffy dealers might turn up their nose at modifying things ahead of the O2 sensor (cats, downpipes, etc), so be warned that those exist.

Well let me caveat it by saying I don't work for a dealer or for Ford, but that would be contrary to what I have heard.

Meaning, if you get a Borla exhaust and swap it in, your exhaust is now covered by whatever warranty Borla offers on their parts. Expecting Ford to warranty that would be silly.

Something-something Magnussen-Moss Warranty Act.

No it won't void the warranty unless they have solid proof that the damage is related to the aftermarket part.

Generally speaking:

Safe things to do such as, intake, axle back exhaust, brake parts, lighting, most of add-on mods.
Risky things to do such as, Intercooler, piping, turbo, catalytic converter, piggyback tune.
Things not do to such as, any internal engine modification, ECU tuning.

I owned a custom accessory shop for 20 years and yes there is the
Magnussen-Moss Warranty Act . This protects the consumer against a dealership denying warranty claims unless they can provide proof that the aftermarket accessory did in fact cause or contribute to the part failure. Here's the deal though. You have to have a good, honest dealer and to be truthful, there are not many out there especially when it comes to service departments. You may have to fight it to get a dealer to warranty something if it is a major time/money failure. Bringing up the Magnussen-Moss Warranty Act is like being told a cop can't give you a ticket because something is not illegal . Sure they can and do all the time. It will be up to you to fight them in court which is where many denied warranty claims end up.

Just make sure you save your factory exhaust and if you ever need to go in for warranty work, you can put that back on if you need to.

If it does go to court it will be a bare minimum of $10k to cover. I am operating under the assumption that Ford warranties are not worth the paper they are printed on. If you have an issue set aside some money to deal with the problem. Luckily these are cheap to work on even a used motor is probably only around 5k.
