B&O Kick Panel vs Memphis Audio MJP6

So I've looked through the forums about the speaker upgrade options for the B&O 10 speaker system. At this point, I'm not ready to look at an amp upgrade and plan to see if the stock B&O amp will suffice. Thus far I have replaced all four corners with Hertz 100.3 and its a definite step up.

My thought is, an upgrade to the kick panels using Memphis Audio MJP6 to replace the B&O kicks might give me stronger mid bass, which I believe would add a bit more of that "punch" to the bass, which is why I think would help quite a bit, to my ear. But I hear a lot of mixed results from people replacing the kicks on the forum here with various speakers. But one speaker seems to have gotten some positive results and that's the Memphis Audio MJP6. But I don't see a lot through searches.

So my questions is this: If using the stock B&O amp, what can I expect by replacing the stock kicks to Memphis Audio MJP6?

In my opinion:

Upgrading the kicks is the least impactful thing you can do.

If you seal them up fairly well with dynamat and throw 100W at them you might get some impressive effect regarding mid bass. But don’t go in with high expectations, especially if you are not pairing it with an amp.

I wont lie and say an upgrade here is a waste of money - it does help some. But the effect is much, much less than almost any other audio upgrade you could perform for the same amount of money.

I have to agree with GRONCO. I upgraded the pods (SSV) and dash (Hertz 100.3) - didn’t do the kicks as I also heard not worth it. While it helped, it wasn’t worth it until I swapped everything out with the Mobridge kit and added the Stinger tailgate sub (Hertz MillePro in the kicks). Expensive, yes, but I’ve been convinced that any upgrade is not really worth it unless you add an amp/dsp and the Mobridge kit is the best out there.

I’d like to upgrade the corners as well. Do you have the Hertz pat numbers you used? Did you need any wiring adapters or plug and play? Thx

I used Alpines all around and did a component from the kick location. It sounds good, but I will need to do a M0Bridge style amp, and I need to replace my sub. For now, I am fine with the sound, that is something I can do at my leisure.

After doing the four corners, I will say that detail and soundstage is better. I find the B&O speakers hit and miss depending on the song. On one song they can sound pretty good and on another, they can flat with some instruments and notes completely absent that you know are there. However, with the Hertz 100.3 anyway, the downside is that vocal "S's" hiss a little, which is off-putting for me. I'm currently playing with the B&O tone control to try and dial that out. On another positive note, I can actually hear the rear pods at play, whereas the B&Os may as well have not been there at all and I'd likely not have noticed.

However, had I been able to audition these in another Bronco, I may not have done the upgrade at all. I've been looking at the Mobridge upgrade and it's the "right answer" but I'm not ready to take that leap just yet. I was hoping the "small improvements" might help just enough, hence my interest int the MJP6s, but based on the above, maybe not.

While the corner upgrades are modest, the kick panel is almost nonexistent unless you add an amp. I would upgrade the kick panel only if you decide to go with an amp/mobridge, else save the $$.

The B&O amp is pushing 25w RMS to the kick locations. The B&O speakers are pretty sensitive and built for that power. In some cases swapping the kick speakers out without adding amplification can result in a worse sound than leaving them.
Bottom line is the B&O amp is rubbish and needs to go!

Best bang for buck sound improvement if you're on a budget is swapping the amp with ours, subwoofer that handles 400w RMS @2 ohm and kicks with something that handles atleast 100w RMS.
The B&O speakers across the dash don't sound too bad when tuned right.

This setup will give you a night and day difference in low end and a decent bump in clarify/soundstage

This is in my opinion the minimum amount you can spend to get a improvement in sound that is worth spending money/time on.

That’s what I found most of the feedback on the kick panel speaker upgrades to say, with the exception of some seemingly very positive statements made about the MJP6 that suggested that mid bass “thump” was markedly improved. So, I figured I would ask.

Even with proper tools and a careful technique, the seams are so tight, you can’t help but mar the plastic and repeated removals will just make it worse.

Yes the Hertz are a good pairing to our amp. I always recommend swapping all speakers out. What i meant was if i was trying to save money and get the best results the setup before would be what i recommend. If budget permits, you should swap all speakers! We have a tune for the those Hertz speakers across the dash that sounds great. We recently redid the tune too so if you dont have the latest let me know and ill shoot it over.

Again, budget is the big factor here when picking speakers. The brands i recommend are Kicker, Hertz and morel. Morel being the most premium best sounding speaker IMO. Their hybrid range is what is used in the full kit and that system simply sounds incredible.

It looks like you are not far from me in Orange County (I'm North LA Co). Does your shop also do installs, or do you just work with other shops? I see the MoBridge amp package, but I'm not sure if it's what you're speaking of.
