Would this be a bad idea? I am mostly a mall crawler except for a few times a year I hit Moab to do easy to moderate trails.

Long as your okay putting it in sport mode every time you start up. The issue is on the freeway the transmission wants to go into 9th & 10th gear and sport mode helps. Was very liveable if you have had a lifted truck with stock gears.

I would take a hard look at 285/75R17 as I lived north of you for a while near Mason City and the wider tires really made black ice worse. I would even run a 255/80R17 if I still lived in that same neighborhood due to all the black ice.

zero issues with 35's on our big bend. it has 3.73's, regularly sees highway speeds, and is plenty happy to sit in 9th or 10th gear running 75-85mph. It also performs and has conquered every obstacle that I have sent the badlands through.

Transmission does sit about 3* warmer on average than my sasquatch badlands on 37's though.

I ran 35s on a 2 door base with 3.73 gears and the 2.3. It was completely fine. As others have said, sport mode helps if it bothers you too much. I rarely used it.

I have the 2.7 on 35's with the 3.73. I get 18.5 MPG average. I've taken it offroad and it's my daily driver. No issues whatsoever.
