Yep. But that's not the point.
Ohhh I guess the point is bitching about something you could easily correct. Got it. You realize it’s infinitely more complex and expensive when you increase the number of configurations you can build. US automakers learned that the hard way when the Japanese are their lunch in the 80’s and early 90’s. Why do you think an accord came as a base, lx, ex and based on equipment level certain options were available.

The whole point is ford is trying to maximize their profit by reducing assembly complexity.

I wouldn't have ordered the Badlands if it was possible to add the mid package and keep the manual. Mainly wanted the mid package for the heated seats and rear sensors.

Ford probably figured it'd help boost the amount of Badland sales too by packaging it in the way that they did. They could change it down the line but I doubt they will.

So Ford maximizing profit and reducing assembly complexity is more important to you than meeting customers needs...got it! I would gladly pay more for the individual options I want and not pay for those I do not want than pay less for a bunch of stuff I don’t want to get the few things I do want, ending up paying $5k-$15k more for the vehicle.
As far as ”complexity“ goes these days with all the computer control on the parts streams and assembly lines I don’t think it would be too big a deal to have selected options “just in time” for each unit. But I am a customer service guy...

I thought something totally different when i read "package control"
Yeah, I thought package control was mostly just a problem for really young guys and some of the older guys.

Is anyone else annoyed the way Ford has setup the way you can build your Bronco?

I have a BD with the Mid package. Yet I wanted the 7speed but I cant get it with the mid package on the BD. I have to get the Badlands. I dont want the badlands as I will never use the disconnect or front locker. I can understand not offering the high and Lux on the lower trim but taking away the 7spd with Mid package I think is stupid. So i decided if I am forced with the auto I added the 2.7 but still would rather have the manual.
I agree with you I wanted the bigger screen with my black diamond mid pakage but the biggest I could get was the 8

They have to limit what you can get on certain models. If everything was ala carte it would be a manufacturing nightmare, even more than it already is.
It's the way they split the packages up or do certain lock outs that angers everybody.
A manual with heated seats is only available in a $50k Badlands.
I bought a Base, manual and will have to add the heated seats myself ..... $34k.
I'd have I jumped to the Big Bend w/Mid if I could have done Mid/manual.
That's a lot of $$$ they left on the table for an option package they already offer.
Those heated seats would have cost me $8k and I lost the manual I wanted.

what gets me. my wifes 21 explorer xlt has heated seats, heated steering wheel, leather and 4x4. it was only 36k. you have to have the Lux package for heated steering wheel. they really want to bleed money from buyers for really cheap upgrades

Who needs options? Embrace the Base!!

Then you can make it what you want.

Annoyed that I can't completely a la carte every available option on every trim? Nope, that's not realistic.
Annoyed that some pretty basic options are shoehorned into higher packages? Sure.
Annoyed that there are no functionality packages to supplement the three "leveled" ones? Yes.
Really really really annoyed that the rules for manuals are different than for automatics? Even though I'm used to seeing manufacturers screw over manual buyers with artificial limitations (and then complain about the low take rate on manual 🙄), yes I very very much am.

I agree with the OP. Ford put all these "trims" together and it actually made things worse.

Just go back to order a drivetrain, and then an interior/exterior trim package. Make everything ala-cart but at a higher price than if you do the package.

They had it right for a long time. XL, XLT, XLT Lariat. all could be had with the same engines, transmissions, axle options.

Want 3.73s, lockers, sway disconnect and 33", vinyl seats with washout floors on an OBX? Sold! Base with Leather? Sold! Badlands with a Snorkel? Sold! Steelies on a Wildtrack? Sold!

Ford's trim arrangement does give the aftermarket a new playground like no new vehicles I can remember.

Here's to everyone getting THEIR ultimate Bronco...soon!...without ADM....and test driveable!

Happy Trails.

I want a BD with high package and find it total bullshit that I have to move up to the top tiered Badlands just to get high package and mgv. I literally have no use for a Badlands.

I have a suspicion that consumers are not the only ones harmed by the trim and packaging buckets this time. If getting a certain package requires an additional chip because of ACC then requiring everyone get ACC to get that package means you've introduced an artificial chip dependency that a lot of people would not otherwise have suffered. So if BL requires something constrained that BD does not, but customers order the BL to get some other combination of features they want, and Ford can't produce as many BLs... then they've managed to shoot themselves in the foot. Or rather Marketing has managed to shoot Operations in the foot. Oops.

It's even worse for adding functional offroad options. Want to add a $495 rear locker to a base? You can't - at least not without adding the whole Sas package for $7,385.

Base + Sas
$29,300 + $7,385 = $36,685

Cheapest way to do it is to go up to a BB where it can be added as a $495 stand-alone option.
BB + rear locker
$33,785 + $495 = $34,280
[$4,980 over base]

Or go up to a BD where it comes standard.
$36,450
[$7,150 over base]

Terrible.... $5,000 just to add a $495 option.
