So the tailgate on the Bronco really wants that heavy ass spare tire on it. Take the tire off - and you gotta practically SLAM that tailgate shut to keep it from throwing a “swing gate ajar” code on the dash.

Anybody have any tips for adjusting the sensitivity of the sensor? Never had this issue before taking the tire off. The gate feels tight when I pull on it. But obviously not quite “shut enough” because if I open it and slam it hard the code goes away.

Hmm I have a spare tire delete, and I have zero issues closing my tailgate. I am using the Fab 4 one with two rotox 1.5 cans.

Are the cans full or empty?

@Figmo : They are empty now, but I have not had an issue full or empty really. My tailgate is easy to close, the only thing I feel sometimes is that when it opens, it stops at the first position, like a 35% angle or so, and I have to push it to the full I would say the 50% open position.

I got a flat this weekend so I haven't had the spare on (neighbor's Halloween decorations got a bit sloppy), and I've experienced the same thing. I think you're looking at the wrong part. I think putting a lighter strut on it will help. Or you just need to get used to slamming it without the momentum from the tire to help it close.
