Bump to give plenty of opportunity for someone to speak up. If there are none, I would be 90% sure the issue is less than full disengagement of he clutches to the front as part of the neutral shift. Ford may have figured this out and increased clearance specs in the clutch, why we haven't heard of many lately.

I have a 2024 2 door Heritage V6 and when I take it out of tow mode I smell something getting hot. Smells like rubber burning.

I flat tow quite a bit. I have the part time case in my '21 Base. Never any problems other than occasionally forgetting that the parking brake was engaged LOL.

The exhaust seems to collect rubber dust from rolling down the road. When you start the motor the exhaust heats up and burns off that rubber and road grime. That happens with pretty much any flat towed vehicle.

Since our Bronco does not have 4A I'm watching with interest because I'd like to set it up to flat tow without having to worry about destroying the transmission.

Because we flat tow, I researched this and the rv forums a bunch before finally ordering our 2024 Black Diamond without 4A. Every Bronco that I know of that lost a transmission during flat tow had the Advanced transfer case. We have 15k miles on it so far and probably close to as many being towed behind our MH. Knock on wood.

Two things. Exhaust and tire dust collect in the A/C ducts if you don’t switch it to recirculate before cutting the power off. And like mentioned. Tire dust collects underneath and on the exhaust and smells when you start it and that burns off.

I have been flat towing a F150 for 15 years and I can tell you it is not rubber dust. We never had this smell when towing F150. Something is getting hot after flat towing.

I towed a F 150 behind an Allegro Bus for 35000 miles the last few years and never smelled anything like this. My wife stopped at a store after we had towed and two men were admiring Bronco and walked up to it and where very concerned that something was getting very hot even concerned it might caught on fire.

Twice after a long tow that involved bad weather, snow on road, I have smelled burnt something while driving the Bronco on the first drive after tow. It goes away gradually. Never has happened any other time other than first drive after bad weather tow.

It’s the hamsters. Gotta give them a bit to cool their jets

Ditto. You’re the first person I’ve heard say this. I changed my transfer case fluid and it looked pretty. FYI we’ve flat towed nearly 8,000 miles combined.

You can give them all night if you want. First drive, even the next day, smells hot.

It’s common knowledge among RV’ers who flat tow that sometimes the towed vehicle stinks after being flat towed. (See link to rv forum below) Maybe the Bronco collects the debris and smells more than your other towed vehicles. I know why mine smells but I haven’t towed yours, maybe you do have an actual problem.. mine doesn’t. . I’m on my 4th flat towed vehicle and the Bronco definitely stinks more when first driven than the others did. After 12k or so miles of towing it, if something was getting hot causing the smell it would have failed by now. I have felt the transmission and transfer case, wheel hubs etc multiple times during and after towing and they are always cool to the touch.
