After digging into some older threads - due to the fact that the Smittybilt isn’t reinforced behind all 4 bolts of the tire carrier - @Turn Offroad won my allegiance. I regret not getting their rear bumper on a daily basis. I didn’t want to make the same mistake twice.
Love both

if you are going to carry a 37” or any heavy tire get the BAM pin support so you don’t get that nasty pin bend.
I have the Turn Offroad carrier and love it. This is the first I'm seeing of the "pin bend" though.

Not sure the pin support really makes much of a difference. I’ve been carrying a 37 for years now and I’ve never had a problem without it

My gate is level and can be closed with a finger. I don't think there's any weight on the pin.

When my tailgate got tweaked (however it occurred) it tweaked the metal around the pin as well as the tailgate. It was a mofo to get it all realigned. Sure - it was all good, all the way up until it wasn’t. I suspect a lot of washboard roads and my spare bump stops weren’t in place correctly, but it’s possible someone tapped it in a parking lot or something too. That was when I had 35s - not even 37s.

It’s been solid since I did all the reinforcement and got it realigned. Tailgate is still a bit twisted and that will never correct, but it closes one-finger again (at least when the damper doesn’t break off) and body lines are mostly square.

I couldn’t say if the pin reinforcement would have prevented any of it, as I didn’t have it before - but it’s an easy and cheap to do for some peace of mind.
