Federal law only mentions the amount of reflective surface needed.I read in another post about this that it's a regulation that no part of the mirror can be blocked, so they just removed it.
Could be some state law that manufacturers have decided to make all models conform to so they don't have to make several versions - happens all the time and why everything I buy has a warning that California has determined it can cause cancer.
And I may be a little OCD, because it does bother me when I look at it - but more than that I question things that I don't understand. Only way to learn and grow. I know Ford did this for a reason, as it is easier to design something symmetrical - so I want to know why...and if I know why, it probably won't bother me as much.
