I read in another post about this that it's a regulation that no part of the mirror can be blocked, so they just removed it.
Federal law only mentions the amount of reflective surface needed.

Could be some state law that manufacturers have decided to make all models conform to so they don't have to make several versions - happens all the time and why everything I buy has a warning that California has determined it can cause cancer.

And I may be a little OCD, because it does bother me when I look at it - but more than that I question things that I don't understand. Only way to learn and grow. I know Ford did this for a reason, as it is easier to design something symmetrical - so I want to know why...and if I know why, it probably won't bother me as much.

FMVSS 111 (federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard) for passenger car mirrors does not mention anything about not allowing a portion of the mirror being blocked. As long as the minimum reflective mirror surface size is met and can be seen by the driver, the standard is met. There are a few additional requirements but none that would mandate cutting the corner of the mirror off. I imagine that Ford meets the minimum requirements with what they have and this was a way to shave a few pennies off the cost of the mirror glass and less plastic resin to make the housing. JMOP.

If this were the case, how do they establish a viewpoint? I would be able to see an entire rectangular mirror unblocked just fine from my normal seating position.

Below is the standard from FMVSS 111. S5.1.1 Field of view.
Except as provided in S5.3, the mirror shall provide a field of view with an included horizontal angle measured from the projected eye point of at least 20 degrees, and a sufficient vertical angle to provide a view of a level road surface extending to the horizon beginning at a point not greater than 61 m to the rear of the vehicle when the vehicle is occupied by the driver and four passengers or the designated occupant capacity, if less, based on an average occupant weight of 68 kg. The line of sight may be partially obscured by seated occupants or by head restraints. The location of the driver's eye reference points shall be those established in Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 104 (§571.104) or a nominal location appropriate for any 95th percentile male driver
S5.1.2 Mounting. The mirror mounting shall provide a stable support for the mirror, and shall provide for mirror adjustment by tilting in both the horizontal and vertical directions. If the mirror is in the head impact area, the mounting shall deflect, collapse or break away without leaving sharp edges when the reflective surface of the mirror is subjected to a force of 400 N in any forward direction that is not more than 45° from the forward longitudinal direction.

But S5.1 refers to an inside mounted rearview mirror.
S5.3 addresses a passenger side mirror requirement if the inside rearview doesn't meet 5.1 ( but I'm pretty sure the Bronco's does, so for Federal requirements anyway, the passenger side mirror isn't even required)

S5.3Outside rearview mirror passenger's side. Each passenger car whose inside rearview mirror does not meet the field of view requirements of S5.1.1 shall have an outside mirror of unit magnification or a convex mirror installed on the passenger's side. The mirror mounting shall provide a stable support and be free of sharp points or edges that could contribute to pedestrian injury. The mirror need not be adjustable from the driver's seat but shall be capable of adjustment by tilting in both horizontal and vertical directions.

I hope nobody tells this guy about the off-center text on the passenger mirror. Then he will REALLY be annoyed!

I’m with you. I feel I’m a pretty logical person, but can’t for the life of me figure out why they would do that. What purpose could cutting off the top corner of only the passenger side mirror possibly serve? If someone knows why they did this, please share.
Aerody- nope, nope, nevermind

So, the angle of the A pillar and the Slice off the passenger side mirror aren't the same. That bugs me.

I know, probably got more things I could complain about. BUT...

A little off the subject but mine has a wide angle mirror in the upper right corner on PS and upper left on DS. Oddly enough the wide angle mirror is shaped roughly the same as the mirror only rotated 90 degrees. 2022 Black Diamond with just the standard trim package. I'm assuming that the blind spot monitoring package replaces the wide angle segment with the blind spot warning lights. Just curious.
