I’m on the search for a rear mounted awning option as well….and free standing if possible.

My search has led me to kammock
https://kammok.com/products/crosswing-instant-car-awning?variant=40185019596854

They make 2 versions a 5’ wide and 7’ wide.

while the 5’ is slightly wider than the top/roof rack, I think it might do the trick.

Not cheap but cool features.

This is the closest thing to what I was envisioning. If there was a version of this that was a 4x6 foot or 3.5x5 foot canopy I would be ordering immediately.

Thanks for this one. Closest one yet!

I’m joining this thread. I’ve been hauling around a ARB Touring and am kinda over it. It’s too much for every day/weekend use. I’m gonna hold onto it for longer trips, but I’m looking to simplify next year.

I might spring for one of these. But, I have a feeling setup is much longer than I’m looking to invest in on a regular basis.

I'll be honest, that thing looks like a total pain in the ass.

Cool concept and great to see unique stuff coming to market but I'm just not seeing that thing being very practical.

Do you really want a "rear mount"? It won't allow you to open the back hatch.

Also the way the back door opens would make a passenger side awning problematic.

I've been looking too and only a driver side awning seems usable, not 270, not 180, not rear, not passenger.

That tarp (or popup/freestanding awning) is looking better all the time.

I have you considered a 270 wrap around? I have the roam version and honestly love it. I have never needed the legs, and it is super quick to pull around (I have made a quick clip system to hold it tight once it gets around), and easy to wrap back up as well.

It does take an entire side rail of the bronco, but provides lots of cover and is easy.

Only downside is a potential small gap where it gets to the back, but I haven't had issues in rain because I went through several attempts at perfect mount.

Also works great with my rooftop tent.
