If I get time today I’m going to bullet point all the red flags in this deal. There are several! Uh WERE several.

First and it should of been the only red flag, FULL deposit... ADV might as well made it a Kickstarter because that is what it really was only disguised as an actual deliverable product so they didnt have to give anything up.

I don't have money invested, but the time I invested into reading all 248 pages of this thread has absolutely paid off today when the greatest plot twist of all time is dropped OUT OF NOWHERE.

Wild coincidence that today Armadillo Designs announced they just started delivering tops today. John should've asked them to make their top. It would've been delayed but at least made it America and, well, actually would've been made.

I wouldn't say this one is totally out of nowhere. Once the shoe dropped that the tops weren't made in the USA like originally stated it started to become clear that there was for sure at least a defect or flaw in their design. Once they started dishing out refunds and started going from updates on fridays to 20-30 days it became clear to me that the ship was sinking. I thought it was going bankrupt them, so I guess the Only thing I didn't see coming was them going full scorched earth on APG.

I posted the Google Drive link. Can't upload it here as it is over 750mb. The transcript that was posted is close to what is conveyed in the video with a few omissions. The video looks more like a hostage video with poor editing. I'm not sure why there were so many takes to stitch together the final version. All John had to do was read a transcript. Seeing the choppy transitions made me think he was pulling off one of his green screen stunts like we saw when he toured the manufacturing facility.

My Morse code is a little rusty but I think his blinks read something like “Not Us. All scammed. APG at fault”

i placed my order in July of this year,,,,just 30 days before they sent that letter informing me of the issues. Why did they accept my order???? They had to know they were going to take them to court. They are very greedy. I am not happy with this. I wonder if anyone received a hardtop from them???

Maybe the LiteBrite video triggered them. LiteBrite triggers me all the time.

I just ordered one in july this year,,,only 30 days ago. they had to know that there would not be any hard tops at all. took my 8K and ran. These guy really stink. they should not have taken my order. so i did contact my credit card company and hopefully they can get the $$ back. what else is there to do???

In your case, your purchase is well within the window to dispute the charge. I'm not sure about those that made the charge 2 years ago. Credit card companies aren't obligated to reimburse customers for fraudulent charges forever.

Now, you aren't a new member here on B6G. I would advise that you follow along more frequently. This scam was sniffed out long ago, yet you still made the purchase a month ago.

In hindsight I totally agree about the 100% deposit being the reddest of red flags. That said, I put mine down last year when it appeared they were literally about to start shipping (before the supposed rubber issue, I think).

The day after I got my refund in February was when they (again) announced delivery was imminent, although you'd have to put the whole thing together yourself. That was followed by the hilarious "pizza tracker" that was obviously a static image. That would have been the final straw had I not already bailed.

This whole thing is sickening.

I paid 5.6K for one, they got me as well. I purchased in November and was patient, I wasn’t in a particular rush. I figured good things take time and a small American owned company is trying to do their best. I have several hobbies and don’t join forums for all the things I enjoy to check every time I make a purchase, I should probably start. If you want to say “you should have read the forums, that’s what I do” you’re right, feel free to laugh and throw stones.

I made a claim with my bank and have emails nearly every month from AFC saying it’s on its way. Also have a screen grab of the refund policy saying something like “if we don’t deliver, you get your money back”.

You’re not alone! I’ll likely give an update on this thread if I get my money back.

I paid 5.6K for one, they got me as well. I purchased in November and was patient, I wasn’t in a particular rush. I figured good things take time and a small American owned company is trying to do their best. I have several hobbies and don’t join forums for all the things I enjoy to check every time I make a purchase, I should probably start. If you want to say “you should have read the forums, that’s what I do” you’re right, feel free to laugh and throw stones.

Then found that if you got a late 08 they revised the plug design to make it "better". I purchased a truck manufactured in Oct of 08. Not problem with the plugs. Truck has 150K on it.

It was a good thing I did some research because I would just bought a truck not knowing about the plug issue.

A few months back it started with the timing chain issue they all have. I read about that when doing my research and decided to take the risk.

Let’s face it- MOST buyers aren’t frequenting forums like this. Those who don’t are in for a rude awakening. Those that are on these forums and didn’t heed the warnings-

But for ADV to try and shift blame- especially after continuing to take orders as of 30 days ago AND telling people containers are being loaded? Yeah- YOU ARE TO BLAME ADV!

A “substantial purchase” is obviously completely relative… I make purchases all the time that I’m sure many in the world would consider substantial to them. For me - laying out $5-8k for anything is substantial.. and would thus warrant some time spent on reading reviews, forums posts and otherwise familiarizing myself with the current state of affairs and what people are saying.

I don’t like that anyone was duped and sincerely hope they got their money back but in this case - if you ordered it within the last year then there was substantial evidence as to why you shouldn’t

No one received a hardtop from them- other than 2-3 influencers who got them a long time ago. Not sure if you followed the huge thread about this top and company- but it would have helped you make a decision if you did!
