Woke up 1 morning and after start-up observed ABS light on along with traction control, hill assist, collision detection, and numerous other lights on. Brought into my dealership and was told the ABS cable which runs along my rear axle was shredded. I was told th cabl was disconnect, saved off, and a new cable was order. Now I'm being told the cable is back ordered and who knows when it will be in seeing that it's not a Ford product. I was given my bronco back and told it was safe to drive, no loaner needed. Now as I drive around my lights on the dash are still on and bells are constantly going on and off. My question is with the cable disconnected do I have ABS or not. When I ask the question I'm told your car is safe to drive. I'm getting no help from Ford customer service either

You don’t need ABS to drive your vehicle. My Escape ABS failed after 5 years. I drove it for nearly 15 more years that way. ABS didn’t get added to vehicles until this century.

I don't understand any of this.
Cable was disconnected, saved off? Cable is not a Ford product...?

I think he meant “shaved off”

No, you do not have ABS

Probably also do not have a long list of other amenities, such as:
Cruise control
Auto high beams
Goat modes
4Hi
Hero switch functions
Collision Assist
Etc - pretty much anything that has a speed limit or input

But it will drive in 2Hi/4Lo just fine - normal brakes still work fine. Parking brake works. And oddly enough the speedometer will probably still work fine, even though anything that needs speed as an input on the computer will not work.

If you read the owners manual on page 225 it clearly states no ABS can result in an accident, rollover, injury and possible death

That’s true any time you drive your Bronco.

What don,t you understand,, cable was damaged, shaved off the axle, it’s not a ford manufactured cable, made by a private vendor who says it’s back ordered

Almost every part on the Bronco is made by some private vendor for Ford under contract.

The warning is there because of liability. The car does have some automatic safety features disabled - ABS and Collision Assistance, namely.

But it's perfectly drivable, all the normal manual functions of driving still work just as they had before.

It's up to you if you feel safe driving without those features, or don't care. Cars didn't have that stuff at all for decades, but it is a requirement that they have them now. I won't deny they make things "safer," but we could sit around all day trying to figure out by how much.

OP, the Automatic Braking System is a safety feature just as are traction control, stability control, and as are air bags and seat belts. I’m sure the manual states you should not drive with any of them not fully functional. But, many of us dinosaurs lived and drove prior to any of them being in vehicles. We are just saying you can drive without them. If you choose not too, that’s ok too. My wife won’t drive my Bronco because it is a manual transmission. She knows how, she just doesn’t want too. That her choice. No one holds it against her not should they hold it against you if you don’t want to drive it with some of the safety systems disabled.

Let me explain my post, just trying to get Ford to take responsibility and give me a loaner until a part I can’t buy and they need to supply under warranty becomes available. Would you put your wife or child in a car with no ABS or traction control

I understand your position. I’m just saying that ABS isn’t required to safely drive a vehicle. It’s an enhancement that modulates the braking to prevent skidding. Under normal circumstances, it is never used. As I stated earlier, I drove my 2006 Escape for many years without it working as Ford had an issue with these failing early. My wife and kids drove with me without fear. Now that being said, I drove for several decades before ABS was even available.

In your defense, the service advisor would always tell me I shouldn’t drive the vehicle without ABS working. Of course, they weren’t willing to fix it for free either.

And realistically you could probably go to Napa and get the abs sensor cable and be done with it if that was the only part messed up...
