4WP Bumpers and Skid Plates

Yesterday I had a chance to install the 4 Wheel Parts (4WP) bumpers I picked up for a crazy deal at Autoplicity and Amazon.

I bought the:

• Front bumper 612684
• Front bumper winch plate 61368W
• Rear bumper 61468W
• Skid plate 61269W (Amazon)

The total came out to under $600 before tax, but MSRP is like $3k for this. Quality is great. The steel is thick, and all the holes line up perfectly. They give you everything you need to install.

I managed to install everything by myself but wouldn't recommend it. I don't yet have the winch plate (or a winch) on, and that would be a heavy endeavor.

The pieces really do include everything. Each bumper includes a license plate bracket. The rear one includes a light relocation. The issue I had is that the connector for the license plate extension wire is too big to run through the hole, so I cut the wire near the middle and soldered+heat-shrinked it back together. If you do this, mark the wires first. Mine were all black, so I needed to test after. It was easy enough to fish the wire through backwards, and this way my solder connection is inside the vehicle not exposed to elements. For the front bumper, if you install a winch, I think you'll want to get a fairlead license plate mount because I don't think the included one will work, if you need a front plate.

I started with OEM plastic bumpers for both, and I was concerned that there may be fitment issues especially for the skid plate with factory recovery hoops. I didn't have to cut anything on the vehicle; totally reversible. My factory tow hooks are still there. I didn't use the included reinforcement brackets for the skid plate, though, because they don't fit with the tow hooks and the tow hooks need to stay to support the intercooler. I didn't have any front parking sensors or a front camera, so I can't speak on those things. If you're doing the front license plate, add it before installing the bumper.



The last thing I need to fix is parking sensor issues because I need to spin the rear middle ones 180 degrees to get the wires to connect. (Update, I did that, it fixed my issues. If you see your license plate light blinking, it has a sensor wire connected not the plate wire)

Now an excuse to get some lights to fill those light slots, and an aftermarket switch or add the upfitters...

Nice! I'm not running the winch plate, but the nice thing about this setup is that you don't have to remove the bumper to install the plate as far as I know. Most options are using the factory bumper bolts so if you have the bumper installed you're essentially completely uninstalling it to add the winch brackets.

Now with that being said I do recommend running frame horn reinforcements if you're going to run a winch. So anyone planning a winch in the future would want to install this when they install the front bumper.

Did you have any issues with mounting the sensors? I have the rear bumper and the sensor placement is janky, at best, which is ultimately why I haven't gotten the front bumper yet.

The rear bumper sensors my main issue is that the spacer (the silver stubby tube part) gets in the way of fully seating the connector. I think it'll still work fine enough, but I need to rotate my middle 2 sensors first to know. I had them with connectors out rather than in, and the wires are too short that way. I didn't notice when it was off the Bronco because I plugged the license plate wire into the sensor.

I don't have front sensors, but I think the mounting situation for the front ones is quite different.

I had no issues with the sensors. They were not just as the instructions noted but it took me only a minute to sort out and they fit and have stayed in place with no problems.
