I've got reservation for a 4-door BL. I also have a family of 5, and a dog. When we head out to the wilderness, room is tight in the Runner. Load that thing up with gear and the critter and soon enough, we are over flowing and taking the wife's Subaru Ascent as well. Keep in mind the other four members of my family are females. That might help explain my situation.

Ideally I'd buy the Bronco and it fits my family, my dog and a few days worth of gear for heading into the back country. I don't think that is feasible, or realistic from everything I'm seeing with the Bronco. Interior cargo dimensions appear to be smaller than my 4Runner's, so I'd be taking a step backwards in that regard.

"What about buying a roof rack?" you might ask. Well I was planning on putting a RTT on my next vehicle, so there won't be room for gear and a RTT. Not sure I want to load and unload a RTT each time I want to use the roof rack for hauling gear either. Buy a trailer? Possibly an option, but that 3500lbs tow capacity is a joke, and I don't know I want two trailers - one for my Yamaha Grizzly 700 and a camping trailer/gear hauler? The Bronco can't tow a big enough toy hauler/camper.

So what do you all think?

1. Ditch the reservation and wait for the new Raptor or all new 2022 Tundra?
2. Buy the Bronco and learn new methods to control my inevitable rage when I can't fit all my crap in it for a weekend in the woods?
3. Buy a Ranger and hate myself every time I look in the mirror?
4. Sell all my belongings and live like a Sasquatch alone in the forest?
It’s simply too small for you bro. Bronco is a compact SUV. Not going to fit 5 and a dog and your stuff.

now forgive my newness to the off road scene

But

You said you were worried an expedition might not be off road worthy enough but if you might betaking a trailer with you ...the off roading can't be that extreme if you can bring a trailer can it?

That point aside, sure seems like an F150 or something like would be more up your alley. Maybe a clean used excursion

Oh, man! Could you imagine a new Excursion on the current Super Duty platform with that diesel!?

OP, that's what you need! ...a vehicle that doesn't exist. :p

There are some very off road worthy trailers made these days.

See Patriot Campers, Manley ORV, TerraTrek Campers, and others.

pile the family in the runner and put the dog with your cargo in tow .... these things look small but they are so equipped and roomy .... can have it custom made also .... will fit a kitchen and even a shower with a bathroom .... you can load cot beds, sleeping bags, tents etc etc

can also get a roof rack in addition

We could trim down what we take as well, but now I'm getting older, I kind of like bringing extra amenities to make life more comfortable on the trail, to a point anyway. I've never owned a RTT, but they seem very convenient for camping in hard to access areas of the back country. Modern off road trailers can get you there but they are ????. 100% agree about the pain of having to pack up camp to drive anywhere though.

I wish I hadn't sold my Jumping Jack Trailer. It hauled my ATV with ease and was a great tent setup. I needed to downsize toys and it went bye bye. Now wish I kept it instead of other toys. Maybe I'll buy another one...
I have a theory that people who rarely get out like the idea of driving around town with a RTT to advertise how adventurous they are. People that actually get out a lot find them silly. A RTT on a trailer - that makes some good sense. A RTT in Africa when you’re camping around lions, yeah that makes sense. A RTT on your daily driver makes you look like a wanna be. Just my two cents.

Selling your kids will be way cheaper than buying that camper.

Facts.

I have no desire to run the Rubicon with a trailer. Trails that difficult aren’t my thing any more. I like a challenge but I’m not a glutton for punishment.
