Family and I go on a number of trips each year requiring serious off road capabilities. RV or a large camper trailer is not remotely what I need. This Patriot campers are legit though. With a family that size that you'd actually want to take with you (most wheel with only 2 people as those in the back seats tend to suffer), serious suggestion....
Get an RV and be done with it. How many actual trails or similar adventures do you plan to actually go on?
If off road is a must, get a Patriot Camper for off roading. Trust, they can take a beating.
Not a lot of off road options for 5 and gear without a trailer or a serious load on a roof rack.Family and I go on a number of trips each year requiring serious off road capabilities. RV or a large camper trailer is not remotely what I need. This Patriot campers are legit though.
Do you have any pictures?Actually I bought a used Expedition and put the ICON Stage 2 kit on with 33s and it's a beast off-road. Coming from the Raptor world, I'm impressed what it can do and still haul 8 people. The Expedition is way underrated off-road! It's big but then if you have to haul people and gear, it's the best there is imo!

New expeditions are really nice and are capable off road with the right upgrades. Can store a whole army in that thing!Sounds like you need an expedition. 5 people in a bronco seems to be pushing it a bit.
It transformed it. I'll tell ya that much. Put some stronger skid plates underneath, took the stupid air dam off the front and it improved the whole package a lot. If you had to move a lot of people but still wanted to get away, this will do it!It’s rare to see one with ATs, let alone upgraded suspension.
Damn. That isn’t the worst setup out thereWe use the truck with rtt for easier outings and taking the atv’s out. When we get to more serious trails we make base camp with the truck and wheel the Fj. Bronco will take up the torch for the Fj when we get it. If You get an annex for the bigger rtt you could sleep 8 if you had to. Sometimes 2 vehicles just makes sense.

No wide bodies. Kids are still young pre-teens.Not a lot of off road options for 5 and gear without a trailer or a serious load on a roof rack.
We talking small kids or big kids? Everyone slim or hefty?
Bronco isn't really made for that many to wheel. Only vehicle I can think would pull that off would be the new Defender 110. The payload alone makes it the most serious overlander available today. A pickup definitely isn't the way to go and a rooftop clamshell is for no more than 2 people.
What kind of trips are these? Where are you heading? Is this "The Epic Family Road Trip" type of travel doing the TransAmerica or going to watch King of the Hammers? What?
