yeah. You keep those GTI's man!! They're the lightning in the bottle versions!
My 2017 was my first GTI and first VW ever. Prior to that, I was Honda/Acura all the way--but then American Honda decided to screw me, hard, on the van's glass transmission. They had spent 8 or more years replacing those things hand over fist, but then the housing crisis and financial collapse happened. They pulled ALL the way back on their goodwill warranties, and when I came in with a gently used van with a bad trans--me, with 20 years of dealer service invoices and friends and family buying Hondas and Acuras--they had nothing for me. Honda, you have to earn it every day. You stopped earning it. It's 15 years later and I'm still telling the story. I will stop any Honda sale I can. THAT you've earned.
I finally decided to move on. I grew up in the GTI era in the 80s. I decided it was time. I went in hoping to find a 2018 GTI with the People's Warranty, but those weren't out yet--and decided to bring home a 2017 instead. That was December 2017. Autobahn, DSG. I even said to myself, if this thing turns out to need a bunch of repairs, so be it--it's hilariously fun to drive. (And that was before I put the Michelins on.)
Fast forward to a couple years later. Some numbnuts totalled my 17 year old daughters Matrix (I could cry, great car) so I was looking for another. What do you know, a Buick dealer a mile away had a red (!) 2018 (People's Warranty!) GTI S/DSG with only 32K miles. $20K. DONE. I couldn't sign for that fast enough.
She's still driving it, I'm still driving mine, and they've been as reliable as any Lexus out there. No unscheduled repairs.
you know, it's so obvious to us in the world--but no doubt some VW execs got bonuses for that cost cutting bit.Stop the insanity of the screens, and where in the hell did the shifter go?
