Pretty big job. If you do it by the book, the engine has to come out. Warranty pays almost 20 hours
Oh shit I didn’t know they were gonna pull my engine F I thought they just fed to pull the top end apart

There are different ways to do it. They may not pull it, Ford just says to do it that way.

My concern in this era with employment issues....do dealers really have staff qualified to do major engine repairs such as this....let a lone pulling an engine?
Yeah mine too ugh, damn it I can see this causing all sorts of future issues

Just trade it for a 2.3

Let the dealer worry about the future issues
Oh hell no a little 4 banger is completely unacceptable to me in anything other than a lite 3k lb car or something, if this goes south on me I’ll wait and hope the 3.0 inline 6 hurricane makes its way into the grand Cherokee, I’ve already ruled out the new 4Runner and land cruiser because of lack of engine options all you can get is that 4cyl imax or whatever hell it’s called I call it worthless in a 6k lb + vehicle lol if all else fails I just won’t have 2 vehicles I’ll go back to daily driving my hd diesels

Update, well you can’t make this shit up so the bronco has been at the dealer since 7/15 for cam phasers I haven’t heard anything from them since then when they told me they’d have all the parts by 7/19 then have it done for 7/23 so I called in today just to see what’s up and evidently when the tech obviously pulled the engine which I was hoping they didn’t do found torque converter bolts cross threaded from the factory and now they have a new torque converter and miscellaneous parts on order that won’t be here until Tuesday 7/30 and that’s not a definite, so now knowing the engine has been pulled I’d be willing to bet I’ll be dealing with all sorts of aftermath bs that I don’t have the time or patience for I mean I’ll see how it shakes out of course but I can see having to get rid of it if it becomes a problem child 🤦🏼‍♂️. Not sure if I mentioned it anywhere but only 1200 miles on it

100,000 Toyota engines are going to be pulled and completely replaced.

If you go back to the baby horse, Pinto, Ford couldn't afford $20/unit to prevent forest fires

I would have pulled entire engine and transmission and not the extra manholes to separate the two. Then crossthreaded bolts would not have been a factor

How would it have not been a factor because you would not have seen them and left them in there for a possible future catastrophic failure

How does your comment relate to (my comment) potential lack of qualified repair personnel at dealerships?

How many torque converter have ypu gone through? I have been driving for almost 60 years and not one TC failure (knock on plastic wood)

Yes they caught it and it is under warranty but maybe 90% of these are cross threaded. Maybe 100%

Down the road when out of warranty cross threaded holes are an easy fix with thread inserts

I thought you were implying that dealer personel were unqualified to pull engines and my comment was are Toyota dealers any different when Toyota plans on a large scale wholesale engine replacement program. The potential number of Ford 2.7s needing pulled for cam phasers (under warranty) Is very minor compared to what Toyota has agreed to do.

And I would think every dealership would have to have at least one ASE certified tech with engine remove/replace credentials. Many smaller dealerships may only have one bay with a trolley for pulling engines, meaning they only can do one at a time, meaning they only can utilize one engine tech at a time

The second half of my comment was a sideways slap that Ford never wants to spend money to fix known issues, no matter how inexpensive the fix

Actually I used to build high hp diesels and have gone through a fair amount of torque converters and never seen a cross threaded bolt in one unless some hack was working on it and did it to themselves, so you’re saying ford puts out transmissions with cross threaded bolts in the tc in 90-100% of their vehicles 🙄 come on man. By the way I’m just responding to your comments I really don’t give a rats ass about it when it’s fixed it’s fixed if I have future problems with it it’ll get traded off or I’ll fight for a buy back simple, it’s just a toy to help keep miles and short trips off my diesel truck

Picked my steed up today after one week at the local Ford service shop. Thought I'd share a pic of the details spelled-out on the receipt. At least it was all Warranty no-charge including an oil & filter change.
