So you don't find any value in additional power?

There's no "smiles per gallon" factor for you that comes with the roar of a V8 or your entire body being pressed back against the seat as you accelerate? The screech of tires? Smell of rubber? Nothing?

You're either someone who lives on the wild side in some other way (skydiving, cliff diving, rodeo clown) or you're just dead inside.
You drive automatics, to me that is dead inside.
The Civic was governed at 112mph which is a comfortable fast. My Integra GS-R didn't feel more fun at its 137mph. The Z car had triple the horse and triple the displacement, but feels more fragile and lost pavement contact easier so it wasn't confidence inspiring which you need to truly toss a car around.

Have run auto x and mountain roads in vehicles like that, I can believe it.
I'm not discounting there is some joy in simplicity, but come on.... I had a '93 Civic. It was sh@t-box basic transportation. Because it's limits were lower than the average driver does not make it "the funnest car ever", unless of course you were trying to destroy it.... 😂

Surprisingly, the dealer I went to really only has 2.7L in stock with automatic transmissions. Here at least (Bay Area CA), that is the biggest seller. I had to special order my 2.3L manual and out of probably 20-30 Broncos on their lot, they only had one 2.3L manual to test drive.
That's totally normal. When I was shopping, there were no 7MT 2Drs in a 1000 mile radius.. and only a handful (like 4 or 5?) of 7MT 4 drs, and the one I bought had been sitting on the lot for several months.

We are just rare birds. The folks that want a manual really, really want a manual, but let's face it, the vast majority of people do not... so if a dealer gets one in, they just sit on the lot until one of us odd fellows goes fishing for one.

Honestly, now that I know how bad Ford f'd up Select-Shift in the Bronco, if I ever get another one, it will be an MT. Silly me, I just thought the Bronco 10AT would be programmed the same as the F-series... 🙄

It is rediculous the little things that they went out of their went to intentionally make different.

The interior light dimming on the F150 was fine - I never really noticed anything about it. But on the Bronco they changed it so it reacts instantly and flickers up and down as I pass through shadows and it drives me batty.

Select-Shift another thing - was fine on F150, why would you go so far as to disable locking out upper gears on an Off Road vehicle?

The soft start on the high beams for the Bronco was a nice touch though, I admit. Not sure if that's on later model F150s or not.

Legitimate question...why would anyone WANT a smaller, less powerful engine?
1) No extra cost.
2) Available with manual transmission which is also no extra cost.
3) 300 HP with premium is more power than any previous V8 Bronco.
4) See 1, 2, and 3.

I would say weight as well, but honestly I don't think the two engine options weigh that much different - there isn't a huge difference in displacement. Last time I tried to look this up I think it was only like 50-70 lbs difference if everything else was the same.

Really, the only answer to the question is #2 - manual transmission trumps v6 for people that care about it. If you are an auto person, well... I dunno why you would chose the i4 over the v6 unless you were just scared to death of cam phaser rattle or plastic oil pans. I could understand not wanting to pay extra for the v6 though... it isn't a huge jump in hp.

I drive both. MOST of the vehicles I've ever owned were stick. Most of the vehicles I'll own in the future will be stick.

My Auto is dead inside...but the 2.3 and the civic were inspiring. Interesting perspective.

I love driving a manual, but I have zero problems with the 2.7, auto, with the Ford Perf tune. That tune really dials in the transmission nicely and the seat of the pants feel is noticeable. Enough that I'll gladly pay for premium fuel. I'll never dial that tune back, No Sir.

The cost is nominal. All cars have more power than they used to. That's not a selling point. Today's Toyota Camry TRD is nearly a second faster in a 0-60 than the 35 year old 5.0 mustangs people were raving about in the 80s. All the muscle cars of the late 60s and early 70s didn't have much muscle, and to quote Joe Rogan, driving them is like driving a rhinocerous on rollerskates.

Manuals are awesome, no doubt. There's no real cam phaser issue with the 2.7 except for the 2021s. The plastic oil pan is crap, but a few hundred dollar fix, so no biggie.

It isn't the HP jump that's the selling point, it's the nearly 100 lb ft of torque. and THAT is a huge difference.

Modern cars are already faster and more powerful than speed limits allow so why have a 12 cylinder bugatti as a daily driver vs. beep-beep small displacement roller skate?
My 1993 Honda Civic(1.5L 102hp) with a 5-speed manual is still the most fun car I've ever driven. Hard to get in trouble with the law, but very tossable, reliable, and fun to redline.
Why pay extra $ for things that provide no value? Bigger engines seem to be 20% more so that is a new car cost every 5 years of driving.
When did the 2.7 jump from around 5% to 20%?

I was talking about all vehicles, but in the case of the Bronco the cheapest 2.3L you can get is $39,995 and the cheapest 2.7L is $47,940 which is 19.8% more. Obviously content varies, but it does tend to be that you need to buy a lot of useless doo dads to get a more powerful engine. With my wife's Bronco all she wanted was hard top, heated seats, and manual transmission. Obviously 2.7L wasn't an option with manual, but you can understand all the up content she would've been forced to pay for if she wanted a V6.
