Black diamond 2door with 10 speed and 65k miles. Transmission shifting has been terrible. Issues include; clunking when shifting into first coming to a stop, clunking when at low speed letting up on gas and then going back on it, rough shifts from 1-2 and 2-1, harsh or delayed shifts, and probably other things I'm forgetting.

Probably not related, but I recently had to have the rear diff completely rebuilt due to a bad pinion bearing that ruined all the axle and diff internals.

I have reset the transmission and gone through the crazy involved relearning procedure. This pretty much fixed a lot of the problems, but just a couple hundred miles later they are all back as bad as ever.

Is there anything I can do to solve this issue? I'm considering selling the vehicle because of how irritating it is.

I’m at 18k and just starting to get the symptoms you describe. The 10 speed seems to be a bit finicky. A few internet videos seem to indicate a clearance issue on the fluid circuit in the trans.

I wonder if degraded transmission fluid might exacerbate the issue? I haven't changed the fluid yet.

What is the clearance issue? I haven't heard of this.

Theres a TSB for various shifting concerns. Bring it to a dealer and ask them to perform an accelerated main control break in procedure. Usually fixes a large amount of odd shifts.

Ranger problems w/Transmission are related to DTPE EGR sensor. Did you try replacing that?

That's very interesting, thank you. I have had issues occasionally where I am pulling out onto a road from a stop and the vehicle will pause acceleration for a second before continuing to accelerate. I always thought it was a "searching for a gear " issue, but this seems inline with a bad DPFE EGR sensor.

Did this fix your issue? I just had the same thing happen to me when I was pulling out
