Wow- awesome pictures of Colorado! Is that water tank at Trout Lake? If so, I was there in 1994, and Iām surprised itās still standing 70 years after abandonment.
I also have a 2-door Area 51 Big Bend, and I am SOOO imagining doing that same driveā¦
Took our 2-door MT Big Bend on its first 1000 mile road trip, to Rocky Mount, VA and western PA. Lots of mountains, fun steep twisty roads, running the AC, and loaded, we still averaged over 21 mpg, which Iām happy with. The Broncoās trip calculator reports about 1 mpg higher than my actual...
That black soft top looks great on the gray, matching the black trim, tires, mirror, etc., even on a rainy day.
Are you leaving it on year-round, or will you switch back to the hard top for the cooler months?
Welcome to the group, from a fellow Area-51 ārow-your-ownā guy! Nice tribute to your grandfather, and to the brave, originally all-volunteer warriors who took on the enemy early in WWII against overwhelming odds.
Similar here- I got the manual because I love driving stick. The wife is capable, but dislikes rowing her own. Still- Iām lobbying her to learn the Big Bendās 7-speed, since itās the easiest stick Iāve ever had, and so she can share driving on a long trip. Time will tell how this goesā¦
Explorer Sport! I love it- I had a ā93 2-door manual transmission Sport that I parted company with in 2005. It is the spirit of that vehicle I tried to recreate with my 2-door manual trans Big Bend. Spoiler alert: it more than succeeded!
Two speed. Original everything. Was gonna be a restoration project until the Big Bend arrivedā¦
Schwinn made solid bikes way back when-I still have my 10-speed Varsity, which the Bronco will be taking on some adventures this summer.
First open-top ride with Round 1 of accessories installed:

Amongst so many cool trucks and cars, here is my outgoing 2005 Liberty, one of Jeep's most unloved models (as it essentially replaced the original Cherokee). Stop snickering- this has been the most solid, consistent and dependable vehicle I've ever owned. It's undefeated vs. every Northeast...
That looks great! I plan to paint the grill too, in matte black.
How did you prepare the grill?
Did you use a primer? Top coat?
What color/brand of paint?
My Unpopular Opinion? I canāt freakinā BELIEVE that other Bronco owners have likes, tastes, opinions and preferences that are different from mine!!!
One more item for the mechanical inspection checklist:
Check coolant reservoir cap to ensure itās screwed on tight- until it click-locks.
Last week my 3/7 build sprung a leak under the reservoir (passenger side near firewall) after only 50+ miles, on an 84 degree day. I now feel foolish for...
PSA for 3/7 week builds: I got home last Thursday and found a coolant leak under the reservoir tank (passenger side, near firewall) After only 50+ miles of driving. Took it to dealer Friday and went Bronco-less for Easter weekend.
Good news- Turns out the radiator cap was not screwed on all...
I canāt get over how great the Cyber Orange looks with color-matched lettering, tow hooks and side mirrors. Were the mirrors painted or swapped for Outer Banks CO parts?
Great looking- and functional- adds! I plan on doing steps and trail armor too, but was leaning towards Ford parts for lack of knowing any better.
1) What attracted you to Bushwhacker and N-Fab over Ford parts?
2) Can the sliders function as a step?
3) Any trouble installing the trail armor?
Thanks-
