I wash the car and wheels separately. I just use a cheap ceramic to clean the wheels when I do. then subsequently grime is easier to remove

it has already been commented that 2 x 4s are soft / pine. However, just go buy some oak. It will last forever, won't split as easily, and is a safer piece for cribbing. Pine will get it done in a pinch of course. I have absolutely had pine split on me when working on the silverado.

Don't be afraid of a little contrasting color there. Also - if you put a ball of plumbers putty underneath it will keep them from blowing off on the highway and is non-permanent.
