The warranty on the Gladiator wasn't voided because it was driven off road. It was voided because FCA believes is that it was submerged in mud. If true, that would be trail damage and not covered by warranty.

I came here to ask the same question. My guess was that it had to do with legal liability, but I'm not sure. If you cause an accident, could your insurance company see some bolt on parts and decide to weight it? If you're over GVWR, I would imagine they could deny the claim. It is unfortunate...
