I have Ford ESP and broke an axle shaft wheeling. After getting it replaced under warranty there's been a vibration in 4WD that they're trying to track down. While it seems Ford loves to just throw parts at things, the following things have been replaced trying to fix this vibration: both front...
I may have already said it in this thread a while ago, but...
Quick remove/disconnect mirrors.
The current mirrors are highly likely to get damaged on a tight trail, even when folded in. And when you fold them in, they unfold every time you open the door.
The amount of electronics in the Bronco are one of the things that terrify me. I had a run in with the electronic 4WD when I snapped a front axle shaft. Normally, in my Jeep, I'll keep it locked and 3 wheel drive the rest of the trail. In the Bronco the locker would engage but it wouldn't stay...
I don't have pics on hand but...
- Huge dent in driver's door
- Crushed both mirrors into A pillars
- Bent a rock rail into the rocker
- Broken axleshaft... which caused: 1.5 year hunt for a vibration resulting in both front axle shafts being replaced, front diff being replaced twice, front...
The actual hoist is looking like more of an upcoming winter project but I can assure you that these are more than enough to pick up the hardtop. Since I'll be using 4 of them, each one only needs to support 20ish lbs. The plan is to have a couple 2x4s suspended from chains that I can swing under...
Do you know if they did the other 2 fixes? One is to lubricate the alignment pins on the hard top and the other is the adjust something with the back quarter as the hardtop was riding too low and possibly rubbing something. Both of these issues have tech service bulletins posted.
I personally...
There is also a Rough Country bushing for the passenger side now. Not sure how effective it will be but I picked one up, just haven't installed it yet.
With the trails I do, I'll never be able to keep the paint fresh and I already have a HUGE tree shaped dent in my driver's door. When it gets bad enough I plan to bedline the fenders, doors, quarters and windshield pillars black or dark gray. Going to leave the hood and tailgate cactus gray.
FYI, the stock black bushing pops right out if you grab it with any sort of pick. Seems like it's more to keep large debris out so it's not in their tight at all.
I also know the secret to getting them out again as well. BB initially sent me one that was too tight and my steering wouldn't return to center on it's own. The way to get them out was to wheel the shaft all the way in, then put 4 wood screws in the bushing forming a square and then use wire to...
When I offroad, I have to use them. Visibility is a huge downside to the Bronco compared to Jeep. Boxy corners, hood doesn't slope down, wide body. If I didn't have the cameras, I'd go insane wheeling.
That and with snow, there's more likelihood of there being a drastic traction different between the 2 wheels on an axle, making the use of lockers more risky. In my case with the Jeep, all 4 tires dug down into holes and a single front tire hit the solid bottom as everything was spinning.
