DIY: Bronco Raptor Paddle Shifters on Standard Steering Wheel

Let me know if that works. If that's the idea, you'd just need the harness, and the pedal shifters.

Earlier it was mentioned just using the harness from a donor steering wheel (what years exploder actually will work to take the harness from). Also there were a few different posts about exactly which switches to order from ford. Was it finalized which ones were correct? I would rather just go that route and modify my current wheel instead of buying a whole new braptor wheel. Thanks in advance. Guess Im just asking for a summary of what works.

Would this work on a 2021 model which is prior the release of the bronco raptor?

My 2021 FE didn't need any additional wires when installed the Braptor wheel and paddles...

Interesting. Could be by build date or something I suppose, but I know most 21MY's don't have the necessary wiring at the clockspring to control the paddles.

I am very interested in installing the paddle shifters. The parts diagram certainly looks encouraging. So with these parts I'd just need a wiring harness from a Braptor wheel? Or Explorer? Plus back plastic? Is that correct? Was on some mountain roads this week and paddles would make things so much easier. But I'd love to ensure that I have the right parts before taking things apart.

I recommend getting a used Braptor wheel instead of buying the parts separately. Since the installation requires some drilling and trimming, having the Braptor wheel as a reference would be very helpful. Plus, there’s no guarantee that the wire harness from the Explorer has the same pinout as the Braptor’s.

My 2021 also didn't need any more wiring to get the paddles to work...just the swap at the steering wheel....

I recognize that you did this likely before the switches were available separately (at least it sounds like that from @Ducati1098's post of these part numbers). But when I look up those parts with my VIN (2025 w/ Lux), it claims it is an exact fit. So now I'm wondering if it still requires all of the drilling and trimming.

Completely agree...the cost for a used one is alot less than when I bought the donor wheel 2 years ago - for what you need, I doubt buying all the pieces separate will be cheaper. You'll need to paddles, the wire harness in the steering wheel, and the back cover.

I went to all the trouble of doing it and was instantly disappointed. The lazy (slow) shifting of the trans made the paddles seem kind of stupid. Its obviously just the same as the buttons on the shifter.

Clearly this thing is not a race car. But having control of the automatic on the wheel when driving twisty mountain roads would be pretty helpful. Particularly since it is a slow-shifting, close-ratio ten speed. When on the twisties this week I was really working the buttons on the shifter to get the "right" amount of downshifting on the hills. I found myself annoyed that they weren't on the wheel.
