Seeking Feedback Pros/Cons from Those Running an Ultimate Dana 60?

Context: I have a 2022 Squatch Badlands equipped with an Icon Stage 8 kit and 37-inch tires, so I believe 4.88 gears would suffice, as I have no plans to switch to larger tires or a wider stance/overall width.

I do lots of rock crawling and high-speed desert stuff. Think Sand Hallow crawling and CA - Baja, MEX desert running.

I assume the front and rear gear ratios must match if upgraded to a Dana 60, that means I would also need to upgrade the FDU as well.

Yes, they have to match. No, you don't have to upgrade your FDU. Just make sure your D60 matches your existing ratio, or regear the M210 up front.

It's a good opportunity to upgrade the m210 up front, but all it really buys you is going from 29 spline to 32 spline - so yeah a bit stronger, but same gear sizing, just bit stronger on the axle connection

There was a concern about upgrading the stock m210's past .4.70 ratio, something about clearance to the pan and oil flow, although people here have done it succesfully. If you buy a replacement m210 with a deeper ratio, it will have a different back pan (and costs about $1k more for that pan). That's distinct from the Dana Ultimate m210 FDU, which I presume has the upgraded pan and 32-spline hubs

(note, I'm not considering a re-gear an upgrade, you are changing the ratio but not really upgrading anything)

I've e had the Ultimate-60 for 2 yrs w/o any issues, until recently it broke. Specifically the 2 spider older Elocker 2 is what failed...Shocked and disappointed to learn spicer sells these "Ultimate" replacement axles with HD bearings, thicker tubes, and chromalloy shafts when they skimped on the locker by using Eatons OLD 2019 weak 2-spider design, instead of the newer stronger Elocker 4.

The biggest draw back is you are no longer off the shelf parts. Same deal as portals, you are limiting who you get parts from and increasing down time.

ESPECIALLY with the UFDU. And the axles aren’t interchangeable side to side, but you can’t buy only one axle either. Gotta buy entire sets. At $3800/set

Yeah the OX has a good reputation for strength and reliability.

Im gonna try the Auburn Select-a-lok, its a tough design with 4 spiders and big engagement teeth, you can even engage the locker under power!
