Removing the plugs cracked the surrounding powder coat?
On mine when I removed the plugs it showed the flaking. This is what my old one looked like after just 7 months. Also, not trying to be difficult, just trying to look out for fellow members.

There’s some sad irony in that photo.

Just got mine on. I did 2 liters at the top plug. dumb question im going to ask before searching. Is it recommended to fill to the top plug or bottom? 2 liters didn't over fill the top plug. Also I didnt have any issues with flaking so ill be the test dummy. Used the supplied bolts but reused the rubber gasket vs the felt supplied one. im at 12k miles and looked just fine. Im super happy waited it out. I think this diff cover really sets off the rear esthetic.

Should be filled to the bottom plug. Top one is an inspection hole

You do you...

You do realize that pretty well all common "single use" bolts in our rigs are absolutely not really single use? It's Fords way of being conservative with bad mechanics and also making more money. Things like head and rod bolts and other TTY bolts are single use.
I see no reason not to have a drop of loctite. I love the stuff like I love dilectic grease for electrical connectors (the first rhing o do on a new dirt bike after all the additions of armor, stabilizer, etc is loctite every nut and bolt and dilectic grease every electrical connection).

Was always fun to safety wire lock nuts on WW2 fighter aircraft restorations.

Takes no addironal time and poses no removal dificulty.

I think it looks pretty cool. Plus the added plugs make it WAY easier to self service.

Use it all the time no issues just use 1/4 of what you'd use of the blue. These are agrarian grade machines not new Ferraris LOL that would also.accept a touch of red

Wow 15 pages about a simple diff cover 😳😂

I've been never seen so much controversy about bolts, gaskets, torque specs modifications of the cover ever before 🤙

And your prior advice to use red on diff cover bolts (until called out and you clarified just a very small amount) remains terrible advice...

I thought the same, but there is a plug kind of hidden on the front side of the diff body.

The bolts that came with the diff had a dry red spot on the threads. Is that not red loctite? Same with the service bolts.

You missed most of the conversation was the failed power coat on the first runs. The updated cover has just been released, so welcome to the thread. Occasional off topic conversations but thats typically with every forum topic.
