having a body-on-frame version based on the mid-sized Colorodo or Canyon would seem like a better place to start.
Isn't that what they are doing here?

Weird ... if GM wanted to compete directly against the current Bronco, having a body-on-frame version based on the mid-sized Colorodo or Canyon would seem like a better place to start. The full-size pick-up version of the Bronco was gen 2 thru 5.
That's what they're doing here. Everything I read is that it will be based on the BoF Colorado and Canyon.

I already have a GM removable roof option as well as my Braptor. The Hummer EV is an amazing vehicle. And it’s roof stores in the front, so I always have it with me.

I hadn't read too much, just responded to the images shown. GM already has the Trailblazer sold overseas which is based on the Colorado. I wonder why they just don't make it a bit more off-road capable (copy the Colorado Bison) and add a removable roof?

Perhaps you should go buy a 4Runner then.
That's high on my list but waiting for the new Xterra, seeing where GM will go with this and hoping beyond all hopes that Scout will pull their head out of their "tailpipe" and put a full gasser in the Traveler.

Our Grand Cherokee is getting a bit long in the tooth and Bronco towing of #3500 doesn't quite cut it for our boat.

Competition is always a good thing.... we'll see what reality actually brings....

Maverick competitor rumors have been swirling empty for 4 years now, so most of these "reports" are no more than click bait.

I didn't know GM offered a BoF version in South America.

My guess is that they may start with this. However, the current South American version looks too much like the current GM car-based SUVs (i.e. Blazer). GM wants to likely capitalize on the retro styling that has made the Bronco and Wranglers so popular along with the upcoming models such as the Xterra and Hyundai Boulder.

The gen 1 Bronco has cool lines. Which the 6 the gen shares. The GM never looked good. So either the new one will not look good or it will not take its styling from the old one. Bronco is still the winner.

The midsize truck GMC Plant is 5 minutes down the road from me. I’m guessing it’ll probably be made there.

There’s lots of first generation Blazer fans. Probably as many as 2nd gen Broncos.

Ford needs to get serious about its QC. The amount of recalls and service bulletins is absolutely ridiculous. The whole frameless windows is not a new concept and has been done for ever and still is being used by other manufacturers. Problem is Ford half-assed a lot of things on the Bronco. New better seals, new gasket for the frameless windows, V8, and sound acoustic glass would do wonders for the Bronco.

Will definitely see where life is at when the Jimmy hits the market. But if Ford makes the necessary quality improvements to the Bronco they still have a winner.
A V8 2 doors is enough for me to make the switch. Not asking too much.

GM suggesting a V8 is not really a desirable option considering they can't seem to produce any V8's that don't go BANG! lol

No thanks for me!
