Went for a routine oil change, 60k maintenance, and the seat recall. Used the last of my maintenance plan.....As I was leaving the dealership, I immediately heard a 'knocking' noise coming from the front. As I made a turn, the noise got louder and a little stiff to maneuver. Felt as if something was getting caught on my tire. Made an immediate U-turn back to the dealership. Advisor drove my car to listen for the noise which was immediate.

When we came back, Advisor asked who did the oil change, before driving it to the service bay.
About 5 different people went over to the service bay.....45 minutes later, the Advisor came with keys to a Bronco Sport and took full responsibility. Said doesn't know how it happened but that the passenger front tie-rod snapped. They rush ordered parts and said they will take care of everything before apologizing.

I've carried an extra pair of tie-rods with my gear since I got my Bronco, just because of all the stories I've heard of them snapping on the trail. Thankfully, on all my rides, I've never had to use them or let someone else use them. Never did I think they would snap at the dealership! Glad it happened there as opposed to the trail.

Mistakes happen...Thankful the dealership took immediate accountability. Just wondering if they didn't position it on the lift correctly during the oil change, and forced all the weight on the tie-rod...

Weird. I can't imagine how they managed that. Hope nothing else on that side is damaged.

Sorry to hear that happened. The dealer did the right thing fixing it without issues. Curious why the dealer "rush ordered" the parts if you have spares; it could have been fixed same day.

Dealer needs to prove they're using OEM parts with a known history. Easiest way is ordering new parts. I'm surprised they didn't have one in stock. Must be a small dealer.

Either they did some wildly crazy shit, or your tie rod was already damaged.

I'm puzzled as well. Maybe they snapped a sway bar link. The vehicle wouldn't be drivable if tie rod broke. I would have taken pictures. Lucky for you the damage was noticed before you got on the highway. Could have been catastrophic. Since dealership is covering the cost internally. Make sure you get an invoice for the describe repairs just for your records.

Snapped how? You're not driving that thing at all if the TR is broken & separated... Have you seen the broken part yet?

idk, they weren't able to say why just yet. Drove about 30 seconds before I heard the noise and returned it. I didn't inspect it as they took it back to the service bay. He said it was a tie rod upon a very brief inspection. I should have more info tommorow and hopefully a better explanation.
