😅 I came across yet another cracked windshield post this morning, and it got me thinking...

At this point, windshield cracks seem to be one of the most common topics in the Bronco community. Some owners make it years without an issue, while others end up with a crack surprisingly early.

Personally, I'm curious:

How long did your original Bronco windshield last before the first crack or major rock chip?

And for those who have already joined the "cracked windshield club" 🍻, have you found anything that actually helps?

I've seen owners mention everything from changing driving habits to hood deflectors and windshield protection film, but opinions seem to be all over the place.

Also, a bit of a selfish question from our side...

If Mabett ever looked into a Bronco hood deflector, is that something you'd actually consider installing, or do you think it wouldn't make much difference?

Interested to hear some real-world experiences.

I am, although it does have a curved crack near the bottom of the passenger side where the temp registration goes. I keep the temp registration on so it hides it. I won't replace it though until after a trip I have coming up this summer.

Mine lasted until the first trip to Idaho 🙃. Didn't make it a year. I had windshield protection film, but the rock hit just below the top of the window, so it induced a crack up to the window edge. I lived with it for as long as I could until it finally grew and became annoying.

The steep angle of the windshield suggests a hood deflector won't help. The only thing that might help would be a super-thick windshield film, but I'm not sure they can be made thick enough without compromising visibility.

Got my first windshield replacement a couple weeks ago on my '23 2dr Badlands at 21,000 miles. Was on interstate coming back from getting a 4th top replacement at the dealership. A semi in far right lane realized he was in an exit lane and quickly moved over in front of the car ahead of me. As soon as his trailer tire crossed the line I saw the rock fly right past the cars passenger window and smacked the very upper of my windshield. I figured I would fix the nickel sized star when I got home with a DIY repair kit I keep in the tool box but nope, it had spread a foot long by the time I arrived :(

We sold a ton of hood deflectors back in the 90's into the late 2000's, most with very aggressive upswept lips. They are decent for the lighter bugs but do nothing for a stone big enough to crack a windshield. Even the larger June bugs fly right through. You just are not stopping something with that mass traveling at speed in the short distance from the front of the hood to the windshield. Several test were conducted back then and even the hood deflector manufactures stated as such. They are great for love bugs in Florida type situations, but don't expect miracles.

33k only a few tiny tiny dots caused by rock chips. Switched from highway to local commutes a year go, no more dings. 25 miles commute, adds 10 -12 minutes travel time but I enjoyed driving it more. Top down, driving in suburb traffics definitely feels more engaging than boring highway 😅

Curious, did you happen to have the windshield adhesion recall (Campaign 22C12)? That is one of my seven open recalls. It has a remedy, but the first dealership I went to said, "We don't do that one." Apparently it requires body work and they don't have a body shop.
i just had the windshield recall done along with several others. My original dealer told me to go to a dealer with body shop. Didn’t seem interested in helping at all. I contacted another Ford dealer with a body shop and they said all glass work is subcontracted out, none of the dealers do glass. So i went to another dealer and the service desk guy got all the open recalls scheduled including windshield adhesion. He set me up with a loaner Bronco while work was done. So bottom line, find a dealer that wants your business. They are all different, i.e, you are not necessarily “job one”. The glass company they used for mine did not leave a scratch on any body parts nor on my dash. Perfectly done.

I'm on my original, but I have chips and a crack clear across my windshield. Dragging my feet on replacing it. Definitely will before winter lol

Yeah, I like space in front of me. It's always when I'm passing big trucks that I get the rocks hitting the car. I have a nice crease dent in my driver side pillar from a rock. Grrrr.....

21 Badlands: 2 chips and I repaired them the same week. No more chips and zero cracks.

@Mabett if you can come out with a quality deflector that some how snaps onto the hood instead of relying on 3M adhesive I’d give you all my money. My Bronco is wrapped and I can’t bring myself to use the 3M versions out on the market on the wrap.

85 mph and riding people's ass is at least some peoples issues with windshields. I do five over the speed limit, and if people don't like they can just pass.

Driving habits, geographic location have a lot to do with it. I do a lot of highway driving. That in of itself will increase the likelihood of a crack no matter what you are driving. I make sure to change lanes when I get behind a dump truck or any type of vehicle or trailer where crap is going to fall off. Seems obvious but I see people tailgating such vehicle all the time. That being said, a nearly vertical windshield is most certainly going to experience more cracks than others with a higher degree of angled slant.
