Been looking around the usual outlets but can't seem to find one. I've already had to paint my tailgate on the inside once and just got a dent . The whole trunk is well protected except the paint on the tailgate. There's even rubber covers to protect the carpet on the back side of the rear seat but seems no one has identified the need for a tailgate protector. Just throw a toolbox or a propane tank in the back and see what happens. Let me know if someone has seen anything like that offered.

I've been half tempted to spray rhino liner all over the inside of mine... It's a real issue. I have ppf everywhere else, but not on the tailgate. And the tailgate is missing a crazy amount of paint. I complained recently about the wear where the seals contact, but the scratches that aren't along the seals are 100% on me. Lots of stuff bouncing around in the back. Firewood wreaks havoc. A bunch of tools on a trail maintenance project were even worse. Yeah, I should be more careful, but I also use it as a very short truck.

Those are all my fault, but I would love a way to add more protection on the inside of the tailgate.

Yeah I used to have the FP soft molle panel but those and the tables/alloy molle panels lie within the recess with the vents and leave the edge surround exposed.

I've thought of going with the Herculiner or similar spary/brushed on stuff. That's definitely an option and once you are said a done it looks good. But not sure if I want to tackle that much work which is a must if you want it to look right and last. Was thinking more along the line of adhesive plastic/rubber panels you can remove, kind like the door sill protectors.

I had good luck putting a honeycomb vinyl wrap on the front rail of a pickup box.

It's thicker than most wraps, so it might give you the protection you need. I was thinking of trying it on my tailgate. A 3ft x 5ft roll is $28 on Amazon.

Why don't you strap large/heavy items down then? Never, in the history of ever, have I just thrown things like that in the back of any vehicle I've ever owned. That's what straps are for. Take the 60 seconds to tie the item down and this wouldn't be an issue.

Another vote for bedliner (spray or roll-on). Did this on my other vehicles & going to do the pinch-weld areas on the Bronco when the spring rains settle down.

OP - since you are concerned with dents, what about getting one of those tailgate Molle panels and then cutting a piece of 1/4" plywood to shape and attaching it to that panel?

Wow, I'd do that in a heartbeat, if I had the skills. That looks great!
One day, maybe.
