I still remember one of my friends' diesel Jetta. This was early 2000's. Got great gas mileage.
I agree on all the push, and the fact that my tax dollars went to incentivize someone else's car purchase. Especially when it was passed in a bill labeled the "Inflation Reduction Act", lol.
TDI swapped XJ would be sick, probably go full power tuning it and still be better and under budget compared to most modern vehicles.

Listen, let the Ranchero come back, but again, EV error is over, and even Hybrids feel hoisted upon us, lets just go back to Gas and Diesel, keep it simple, son

Can't, sideways engine, FWD. Bleah... Which is why we need a normally mounted engine, RWD Ranchero on the Mustang platform.
Transverse engine mounting was the worst thing that ever happened to the automobile. I've only owned one and it sucked, 2013 Explorer, never again.

Had a 96 Contour Sport. 2.5L, 16Valve, manual. Drove great in a straight line. Always cornered funny.

Any time I drive the daughter's Escape, same thing, corners funny.

I absolutely detest Front Wheel Drive.

To me drivers position and drive feel with transverse FWD feels weird. Subaru with longitudinal drive train seem OK

Once again, my offer to the Ford Bord of Directors stands, I will happily serve as CEO of FoMoCo for one half of what you are paying that idiot Farley.

  • Coyote with Manual option in the Bronco.
  • New Ranchero on the Mustang platform, with Coyote and manual option.
  • CAFE is dead - everyone gets an OTA updated that makes the stupid AS/S button remember it's setting.
  • Bringing back Mercury. - All EVs get rebranded as Mercury vehicles and the Mach-E "not a Mustang" gets rebranded the Marauder.
  • XL trim Expedition
  • Everyone and anyone responsible for putting HVAC controls on the infotainment center instead of physical knobs - clean out your desk, security will escort you out of the building.
  • Ranger gets the 7-speed manual from the Bronco. Oh, and figure out a way to make the Coyote fit.
You got my vote.

Other Daughter has a Subie. It definitely drives more like a normal car. It's also a manual. I think the manuals are biased 50/50 and the Auto/CVT are 40/60. But dear lord is it expensive when things go wrong.

Loved my red '79 Brat....relaiably took me everywhere and up the sides of Gravel mounds. Was cheap to run. Eventually hit the side of a New Yorker running a red light and that was end of the Brat.

They're still around. But most people want the crew cabs. Half truck, half suburban. A sutruckan. or a truckburban.
