The 2.7 has twin smaller turbos to reduce turbo lag. If your 2.3 feels more responsive it's not the single turbo, it's something else.

I am thinking of getting the Ford Performance Tune on my 2023 2.3L- would you say its worth the $?I've had both 2.3 (2023), and 2.7 (2025), loved both. That being said, both benefit greatly from ProCal tune, once installed shifting from 1-2 is much smoother, and ever mode feels like it was bumped up one level. By that I mean with tune, eco feels like normal mode on a non tuned enough, normal (tuned) feels like sport etc.
A while back I would have said yes.I am thinking of getting the Ford Performance Tune on my 2023 2.3L- would you say its worth the $?
I use Sport all the time in my Procal 2.7 with 93.Something is not right. I have a 2025 with a 2.3 and a 2023 with a 2.7 and the 2.7 is an absolute rocket compared to the 2.3. If you so much as breathe on the throttle the 2.7 comes to life. The 2.3 is adequate but it’s anemic compared to the 2.7. We have the Ford tune on both engines and I run the 2.3 in sport mode at all times to give it a little life. The 2.7 I never even bother with sport mode. Both Broncos are the identical set up other than the engine size.
I say yes, but in your case the main benefit is probably moot. ProCal comes with a 3 year/36k mile warranty. Since yours is a '23 probably not a big deal.I am thinking of getting the Ford Performance Tune on my 2023 2.3L- would you say its worth the $?
My base Sas 2.7 2 dr had some bad throttle lag (remember, there is no turbo boost in 1st gear due to torque mgmt) so I bought one of those throttle boosters which definitely helped make it more drivable. I already had a 3" cat-back exhaust on the truck and decided to get the Procal tune (found it for sale at half price so not a bad deal). The Procal helped big time with the throttle lag so I got rid of the throttle booster and I run normal mode all the time, sport mode is too jumpy. I then added Mishimoto intercooler and charge pipes and it got even more responsive. I added the CVF intake an GPE ported TB and the truck really drives the way it should have from the factory. Even with some lift and 37's, it jumps off the line and I'm getting better mpg than stock. I know we shouldn't need to modify things, but the factory (no matter which manufacturer) has to meet emissions, sound, safety requirements so everything is detuned. My wheels/tires are stock Sasquatch. Kid (2.3l) has same tires as me, but aftermarket wheels. So I'd say neglible.
After reading your post, you can see why I'd rather Ford just drop a V8 in these things. And not some stupid Jeep 392 for $100k, just make it a $5k add or whatever for a standard V8, call it a day. Look at everything you had to add to your Bronco just to fix this one simple issue of turbo lag.My base Sas 2.7 2 dr had some bad throttle lag (remember, there is no turbo boost in 1st gear due to torque mgmt) so I bought one of those throttle boosters which definitely helped make it more drivable. One thing you mention comparing to your son's truck with the 2.3, his aftermarket wheels are roughly 10 lbs lighter per wheel and that will make it respond quicker to the throttle.
That's kind of out of necessity seeing the 2.3L turbocharger is larger and needs the twin scroll to reduce lag associated with larger turbochargers. Twin scroll is not applicable to twin turbo V6 (one turbo for 3 cylinders) because the technology requires evenly paired cylinders so instead to reduce lag they use tiny little single scroll turbochargers that spool up quickly. The 2.3L has "twin-scroll turbos" which have less turbo lag than the regular turbos used on the 2.7L which uses two " mono-scroll turbos". Stock horse power is 300hp for the 2.3L and 330ph for the 2.7L, not a huge delta, but the 2.7L has quite a bit more torque.
I didn't have to do anything to fix turbo lag, I did most of the mods because I knew they would help the overall drivability of the truck and they did. What you're calling tubo lag is throttle lag and that can be programmed out easily with a custom tune and is actually adjusted with the Procal tune. The stock automatic shifting programming sucks and a tune helps that a lot as well. Even with a V8, it would have the torque management in 1st gear and throttle lag to protect the transmission. GM does the same thing with the 5.3 trucks. After reading your post, you can see why I'd rather Ford just drop a V8 in these things. Don't bother. He's hung up on the idea that this is a turbo lag issue when it's not. Nothing me, you or anyone else is going to say will apparently change his mind.I didn't have to do anything to fix turbo lag, I did most of the mods because I knew they would help the overall drivability of the truck and they did. You say easily, I say another $600+ out the window. Gearing and sports mode make for a peppy little vehicle. But I have the 7 speed. If I wanted to spin the tires or race, I would have bought a sports car.Don't bother.
