When off-roading, do you use goat modes or do you manually configure your Bronco?

As the title says, when you’re off-roading do you manually set all the settings for 4x4 or do you use the pre-canned goat modes?

Take this with a grain of salt because I've only done a couple of trails since I've had my Bronco but 99% of the time I manually sitched between 2H, 4H, and 4L.

The only time I actually used the GOAT modes was when I went through a deep muddy rut where the mud was up to the bottom of my doors and I switched over to Sand.

I typically switch to mud + ruts in my 2022 Bronco for the gearing reconfiguration and camera. The shift points are much nicer for trail driving in my opinion. I turn the rear locker off since it automatically engages in that mode.

I use Slippery during the winter. I have occasionally used Mud/Ruts and Sport and as needed, manually selected 4H, 4L and lockers. I've only had my Bronco for about a year and a half so far.

I generally forget that the GOAT mode dial exists whether it be on pavement or a trail. I find it extremely annoying to use compared to just hitting the drive mode I want & choosing lockers/sway/etc. as desired.

I also have a manual so there's much less benefit to using a GOAT mode as.. I adjust my shift pattern and throttle use by my own self, hah.

Occasionally. Mud and Ruts and Rock Crawl are more than just presets (I discovered). They do fancy computerized things you cannot do manually, which I learned from my Off-Rodeo instructor. Like M&R ‘stutters’ the tires asymmetrically, periodically to try to shake off mud. Rock Crawl automatically applies braking for a few seconds when you release the throttle to prevent rolling backwards on an incline. Other stuff like that, which you cannot replicate yourself without difficulty, and it’s all pretty cool.

That said, it has to be a pretty serious trail for me to engage a GOAT mode. Maybe one out of 4 trips. 4H and 4L in manual shift mode, sway bar disconnected, is often more than enough. I do simple forrest service roads in 4A, which is a great setting, IMHO.

Manually put it where you need it. I like to see what all we can accomplish in 2WD first then work our way up to lockers/winch if need be.

Both, it usually comes down to if I remember the modes exist. I forget and just manually do it often.

Manually. I don't have the GOAT modes memorized so don't fully understand them. I know what will happen when I manually select 4L, lock, etc.

Also I have a manual and much of the GOAT mode programming modifies transmission shift points.

I gotta remember to try the GOAT modes. Just been doing it manually. In GOAT it uses different traction control programming?
Also never used the crawl control. Should try that too.

They do all sorts of stuff, they’re not just presets you can replicate. Each mode does a bunch of different sensor-computer controlled micro adjustment stuff. I have a 15-minute voice memo somewhere of my Off-Rodeo instructor (who was great) talking thru them all. Will try to find and post. I’ve only used (and needed) Rock Crawl and Mud & Ruts, but they were 👍🏻

In some modes it does. Crawl control can be very handy. I don't have it (manual) but got to play with it at Off-Roadeo. I'd use it if I had an automatic.

Thanks! Just not used to all these aids. My previous ride had the mechanical lever to shift to the 4wd modes, a button for the lockers, a button for the sway bar disconnect and one for the traction control.
It was all on me to figure out what combo to use! So I did the same w my Bronco.
