I'm converting my 2023 KTM 500 EXC-F from a super moto back to a dirt bike. I'd love to lift it onto a hitch Mount system and not have a trailer. I think this is the most versatile for over landing and light off-roading and being able to hop on the KTM and rip around. The wet weight of the bike is 255 lbs. I know the trailer hitch is rated for 350 lbs. I've got the 2.7l Wildtrack, fox suspension and heavy duty coilovers. The weight won't be an issue for anything except maybe the hitch and the dynamic increases when it jostles.

I also need to clear a 12.5x37 BFG KO2 spare.

Anyone have experience in this space? Math suggests it can work, but how well?

A hitch carrier turns your setup into a lever arm (cantilever load). Hitch ratings (like the ~350 lb tongue weight) are measured close to the hitch pin / ball (~8–10”). A hitch carrier puts the bike 18–30+ inches back? That multiplies the effective load on the hitch and crossmember.

Assume hitch rating is based on ~10” from the receiver. Your carrier center of mass is probably ~24” out (maybe more with spare clearance?)

That’s ~2.4× the leverage. So your 255lb bike becomes ~600+ lb equivalent load at the hitch.

And that’s before the carrier weight (~50–100 lb) and dynamic loads from offloading as you mentioned.

Remove the spare when transporting the bike to keep it close to the hitch.

I don't think that helps much on stock setups because of how the spare carrier and reverse camera stick out

I've been using the Versahaul VH-55 after reading other threads in this forum. I have used it for probably at least 6 trips for anywhere between 1-4 hours from home. It lightens the front end of the truck so steering feels a little different but hasn't been a problem. I was worried I would need the extension, but it fits just fine without it AND with the spare tire in place.

Thanks all... I've decided that while I love the hitch Mount for over landing and brining a dirt bike it doesn't make the most sense as my other motorcycles are way too heavy and if I needed to tow those I would need a proper trailer.

Going to explore a foldable motorcycle specific trailer option

Trailer with outboard side heavy plastic storage boxes for gear and consumables is hard to replace.

Ibe been conteplating an Ebike since saw local Husky / GasGas dealer with some $8-13K GasGas branded ebikes at 50% off for 2023 models, now discontinued under GasGas brand. Wwould miss thw engine snort though.
