You know, not sure if my '22 will get this one, but I do get a clunk & thump sound in the rearward/cargo area frequently, that I can feel, when rolling to a stop and accelerating from a stop...might be related?

Looks like it only applies if there was a previous repair has been done already. Probably means there was a problem in an FSM procedure that could cause the transmission output shaft alignment to be off.

Probably only applies to a very small number of vehicles. like those who have had a transfer case replaced.

I'd guess it could apply to both Auto and Manual trannys

Was there previous work done to yours that you know about, @Regan ? Although it could even have been pre-delivery and you wouldn't know.

Great. I had my 2025 Advanced 4WD transfer case replaced at 12k last year.

How was the NHTSA notification sent to you and does it show up in your Ford App?

Edit: Shit. I just put my VIN in on the NHTSA website and I have the recall. Here’s the text:

“ Apr 17,2026
Manufacturer Recall Number 26S26
NHTSA Recall Number26V236
Recall Status: Recall Incomplete, remedy not yet available

Summary
IN ALL OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE TRANSMISSION OUTPUT SHAFT SPLINES OR TRANSFER CASE INPUT SHAFT SPLINES HAVE BECOME WORN OR DAMAGED DUE TO A MISALIGNMENT OF THE TRANSFER CASE AND TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLIES WHEN PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED.

Safety Risk
THIS MAY RESULT IN NOISE, VIBRATION AND HARSHNESS WHILE DRIVING. IF THE WEAR OR DAMAGE BECOMES SIGNIFICANT, IT CAN LEAD TO A LOSS OF MOTIVE POWER AND THE VEHICLE MAY ROLL IN PARK, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy
PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. FORD MOTOR COMPANY IS WORKING TO PROVIDE PARTS FOR THIS REPAIR. WHEN THE REMEDY BECOMES AVAILABLE, FORD MOTOR COMPANY WILL NOTIFY YOU VIA MAIL TO SCHEDULE A SERVICE APPOINTMENT WITH YOUR DEALER FOR REPAIRS TO BE COMPLETED FREE OF CHARGE. THE REMEDY IS ANTICIPATED TO BE AVAILABLE ON MAY 6 2026.”

The only work done was a drive shaft seal, and main bearing seal....

That transfer case replacement is the gift that keeps giving. When it was replaced, they forgot to reconnect the breather tube to the hose barb on the t-case. Took some time and thousands of miles for me to realize it. I went back and had them clamp the breather tube back on and also drain and replace the t-case fluid (at no charge) in case it got contaminated. Now the t-case replacement triggers a new recall. Oof.

By the way, the dealer had a new 4-door Stroppe parked prominently in the grass at the entrance. I walked around to see if there were still leftover 2-door Stroppes tucked away. There were, and the hoods were so dusty they reminded me of barn finds.

Not related. That’s just the driveshaft. Very well documented concern.

is this for manual transmissions or both auto and manual?
I got the notice today on my manual. The tranny was replaced under warranty last year, so that's probably why I got it. Looks like I should probably stay out of 4wd until it's cleared.

I haven't had any problems with shifting. The transmission noise I was hearing was just some rub when it was cold, I never /felt/ anything out of order. I've not heard nor felt anything that seemed out of order when in 4wd either, but I rarely NEED 4wd for what I do presently.

Uff, my manual has the "sounds like a box of rocks tumbling when cold" issue that I was gunna have fixed. Glad I didn't (yet) now, I guess. Roll of the dice when I do, though, I guess.
