I'm not usually a protector/deflector kind of guy but this thread has me thinking about a deflector. I have clear film on the front of the hood but the windshield seems to be a bug magnet and the Bronco hood between the trail sights seems like an ideal place for a deflector. My question is how trouble free can a deflector with just an adhesive tape to hold it in place be? They're cheap enough to try out but I don't need another headache.
Has anybody had a lasting relationship with a taped on deflector?

Body moulding adhesive tape is incredible I use it instead of drillinh or gluing concrete slab for pretty much anything.

Have both hood and fender deflectors on since Aug 2025 when bought NOS 2023 new. Just experience normal bug splatter like in a car mostly top 1/4 and small rocks hitting same aera.

I did it to save money on PPF that really takes a beating on these areas over just a few years and I was curious since the country dealer who sold it to me said they save a lot of pick up windshields on the gravel roads.

After a few weeks of winter splatter on Bronco I now know where to get PPD done will be booking it in for wind shield surround and mirror caps for the HD PPF.

Your call, but I agree w/ others...go with "clear bra" over hood protector.

FWIW, I bought/installed the black hood protector, but my Bronco's green so it doesn't stand out as much.

Yeah, that's what I did with my green OBX. Looks pretty good and I make myself think that the airflow might help prevent stone damage. On the blue of the OP's vehicle, no way. I'd think about PPFing it.

That looks like it fits well,do you know what brand it is, or the source?

I have put bug deflectors on some vehicles, but not others, over the years.

They're GREAT at preventing rock chips on the leading edge of the hood, and some hoods are more prone to rock chips than others. For instance, a Wrangler has a very thin leading edge, which would be harder for a rock to hit. The Bronco's is slightly bigger and more prone to getting hit. Trucks, like my newest one, have a VERY large leading edge that can and likely will be prone to getting rock chips.

They're ugly though. I haven't found any that I truly LIKED the look of, and snow/ice can get built up behind them if you're in a northern climate. Not the end of the world but can cause some scratches if the ice gets loose and rubs for too long.

That said, I am torn on the truck. I WANT to put one on it because of that large leading edge. BUT I don't want to cover up the SUPER DUTY across the front. So yeah...first world problems I guess.

The bug deflector came in today at the Ford dealership, I went down and said I no longer wanted it so got a refund.
yeah it is too ugly for the Robin Egg blue paint.

I will just make sure to dodge any rocks coming my way. Or get a thin strip of ppf for the front edge.

Ordered a pre cut ppf kit for partial hood and front fenders off of ebay. $80. The hood is such a simple shape, how tough can this be to fit?
Famous last words….

The hood and fender front Ford deflectors on velocity blue get many admiring gazez most recently at high end ppf place that was doing more feomt wnd ppf.

Would not look good on REB unless had the balcked out look going.

As @MachingBird said, get the sheild prepped and painted to match.I do not like the black plastic look nor the sheild bump, but after painting to match, the bug bump is not AS noticeable and having owned 2 Broncos,1 with a sheild and 1 without,I can say they do help.

I LOVE what you did it looks AWESOME!

I just bought a OBX that is the same color and love what you had done. My bug deflector came in and I am just not sure I want to slap a black piece of ABS on my hood. Do you have an idea how much just the BF cost to paint? Did you have Ford do this or another shop? I've only been one place and they said I have to go to Ford for an exact match. TIA

Do not trust any paint shop that ever says that. Tell me you don't know how to paint without saying you don't know how to paint.

Like Valhalla said, If a paint shop says they can't match the color, they are just the wrong shop. I'm fortunate to have a friend who is very good with the paint gun who shoots my parts. Ruby Red Metallic is a "tri-coat paint" process so it can be a little on the steep side but looks great when done properly.

If you do the black bug deflector, fender bits, and windshield surround it looks pretty good.

I saw someone painted bumpers body color white and looked really good.....I would budget $400 for bug deflector and $1800 for deflector and bumpers.
