Saw this earlier. I don't think I would jump on the CTI. Risk/reward just doesn't interest me . Cool novelty, but meh.... They are smart though going to a consistent housing.

So product line simplification is the cover story for redesigning brake brackets, tie rod mounts and upsizing all the hardware. We will see who get the first set of Gen2 portals, next year we will have Gen3... Super impressed they just changed everything so if you junk a portal do you have to upgrade?

Interesting timing seems how this literally just happened to wifey yesterday. Caliper and associated equipment destroyed. Luckily she was on the offramp from the interstate. Left a good 50’ skid from the locked up tire on the road when the caliper stopped cutting it and wedged itself into the wheel. Rear portal this time. (The brackets we made up front are still solid) We held off on changing them as we have a big trip next week so figured might as well change the oil and do everything at the same time. Also-quin’s latest explanation for the failures was that they were sold counterfeit loctite. “Nothing was wrong with the bracket design or tolerances.” Apparently.064” difference between the front brackets was correct and how they designed them. They must have made new ones just for practice. They also said they would have a video explaining the failures at KOH. Weird that we haven’t seen anything yet.

I notice they’re also offering financing. Here’s a tip-if you have to finance portals, you definitely shouldn’t be running them. At least if you plan on doing anything beyond the starbucks drivethrough.

@SierraBronco at this point I pretty sure you are abusing your portals. According to the 74Weld literature you can't use tires, only stands.

Acceptable stands for custom cars

Maybe the discount is to pay for all the machine work you’ll be doing on your own to fix their fuckups…🤔

I owe you for convincing me that portals are a bad idea.

I have nothing to gain or lose by sharing reality. I think some people are hit way too hard by $20k and feel they can’t say anything that might make it look like they made a costly mistake.

That reminds me-I recently typed up an addition to the review after getting the chance to finally wheel with other modified broncos. Both with and without portals. Gave a much better perspective on how they perform.

When you can select which tires to air up it’s pretty rad, especially for IFS rigs. The guy with the portal Lexus would occasionally air up/down a specific tire to make up for running out of articulation. Was pretty cool to watch once he pointed it out.

Yeah, but it would suck if you were behind them waiting.

Alternative being waiting on them trying over and over and lining up to hit it again then winching out. 😉

With whatever compressor he had I wouldn’t have known if he didn’t tell me. Throw 10-12 pounds in one tire or air it down. Then he could just keep moving. All from the cab. It was pretty damn impressive.

When I was at Trail Hero in 2022, was in line for Plan B when one of the BFG reps pulled up in their rock crawling Jeep. He was still sitting in the drivers seat and started airing down....I was like what... He Said it was a new system that BFG was working on, had individual wheel valves similar to a Hummer. Dont know what ever happened to it, but it was pretty nice system.
