Does the universal garage door opener function when the vehicle is off?

Honestly I can't tell you how many times I shut my garage then get 2 blocks from my house and think 'oh shit did I shut my garage?' and check my app. That's really all it's good for...

I rarely use the app, to be honest. I rely on the Google assistant integrations (hey Google, is the garage door open/close the garage door/etc) and I have a bunch of tablet dashboards around the house with a tile showing whether the garage door is open or closed; tapping on it opens or closes. All about thinking outside the box there are even ways to automatically check and close or open the door when you leave or enter a defined geofence. Some don't work so well, and I try to avoid automations that are location-based.

I ordered the high package but I am curious about the universal garage door opener on the Lux package.
I plan to garage my bronco but when I don't I would not want a functioning garage door opener in a vehicle with a soft top.

Our Escape works with the car off. Without even being in accessory mode. Without even having the key with me.

If someone rips through your soft top, opening your garage door is the least of your worries. In what scenario is your car sitting outside your garage garage unattended yet you live in an area where people would break into it?

My f150 opener works without truck running. Of course Ive only tested it after I shut the truck off and the truck still has power to the electronics until I open the door. Maybe its disabled once the truck goes to sleep?

The homelink in my 17 Mustang visor works even when the the car is off.

If you want homelink and an auto dimming mirror without getting the Mid package, you can pick one up cheap and install it yourself. https://www.nissanpartsdeal.com/parts/nissan-ec-mirror-alt~999l1-ut000.html Mirror mounts are pretty universal and all you need to do is find a power source that is live when the key is on.

I am fortunate to live in a decent area but not completely crime free. Mostly kids going through unlocked vehicles to take stuff. I lock my vehicles when they are left outside even in the daytime.

I agree—don’t make it easy for anyone. The majority of crime in my area is crime of opportunity—unlocked cars and garage doors left open all night. I can’t imagine someone breaking into a car taking a chance and alerting the owners by opening the garage door. That said, I’m happy to have a garage I can park in. You really miss things like that when you don’t have them, even if you’re not worrying about a break-in.

I hope it opens the door when the car is off, or at least in ACC mode. I'm not too keen on the idea of having to start up my car in a closed garage. Then again, I guess I could open the garage from the inside before hand. Solved my own problem, lookit me go.

So on my '18 Mustang, it does turn the switches off completely after the car is off for a while. BUT, they "wake up" if you open the door and can be used without the car in acc mode/on.

How does the ACC mode work with push button starts? Genuine question, I've never owned one.

Push the start button without your foot on the brake.

Bingo. This is what I did. Search eBay for Gentex Homelink mirror and you can find all sorts of varieties - some with compass, some with auto-dimming, etc.

I wound up getting one with Homelink and auto-dimming for about $40, and will just need wiring for switched (dimming function) and constant (Homelink) power. Should be a fairly easy install.

I have not received any updates. Hopefully a current bronco owner with this feature will enlighten us.

So I have a lux Badlands. Never used the visor buttons before. I set it up today after reading this. I can confirm that not only this works with the vehicle off but it also works with the car off and the doors closed and locked (as if the top was off or down). For reference, if the top is off and you lock the doors the inside door buttons WILL NOT WORK when the truck is off and locked. I assume this is to prevent access to the cargo area by simply reaching in and unlocking the door buttons from inside. If I recall that is an option inside of the vehicle settings on the touchscreen. I'll have to check and see if you can disable the visor buttons. Basically leaves my home unlocked if I decide to leave the top and doors off at any point during the summer. Just reach in and instant access to my garage and home.

Thank you for the update. I hope that you are able to adjust in the settings. I like the idea of it being disabled when the key is not present or the vehicle is off. BTW I like my 229, 365, and mpx. My daughter has her eye on the last one.
