I was expecting more something like “a rag and a match and problem solved.”
I'm more of a pile of black powder and a flint kinda guy.

However, with the current wiring recall, the Bronco itself could provide all the spark needed to blow it's very own rolling bomb.

Most likely, topping off fuel tank caused excess fuel to fill evap canister. After fuel level drops it should (hopefully)dry out and fuel smell will disappear. If it doesn’t clear itself out after some miles on this tank you will possibly get some codes for system issues. The heat we are having will cause more vapors than normal, but if the evaporation is saturated with fuel it will take some fuel usage to get it dried out. Smelling fuel is very disturbing but my guess is you’ll be alright. STOP topping off the tank!!
Yes yes yes what Dan-O said

I opened the hood and looked around and there isn’t a smell of fuel under the hood. It’s just strong in the cabin coming through the vents and under the wheel well near the tank
if you top off often, you’re going to ruin your Evap canister. The fuel is probably backing up.

UPDATE: I drove it almost all day in 112 degree heat and even sat in it idling for 30 min in between appointments. Not a trace of gasoline smell. I think the Lord saved me this time!!

In case someone fails to mention it, I’ve learned it’s best to NOT TOP IT OFF!

Awesome to have a sense of humor about it. We have all done some really stupid stuff and got away with it. This doesn’t even make the radar screen in my level of stupidity. Just an honest mistake we all learn from. Thanks for posting and being gracious.

Of course. Too many people get butt-hurt over the lamest stuff. Have I ever? Sure. But the older I get the more I realize how juvenile it is. 🤣

2nd Update: I drove it today and filled it up to only 20 gallons total. I left it running as I went into the store tonight and it reeks of gas again. Same thing. Coming through the vents and smells at the wheel well where the tank is.
I have no idea why it worked perfectly fine yesterday driving it ALL day and sitting in it idling for 30 min. OTHER THAN it had less than 3/4 tank down to empty yesterday. Idk. I’m at a loss. Does anyone have a clue? It’s still 103 tonight. Lol

Thx Tom. It’s at the forefront of my mind. I was hopeful based on yesterday that it was saved. 🤷🏻‍♂️
AI: "When a charcoal evap canister solidifies or gets clogged, it causes a strong fuel smell because liquid gasoline or saturated carbon blocks airflow, preventing the system from venting or purging properly."

Oh no…..bummer. I can’t get 20 gallons in mine even when “50 miles left to empty” notification is on. Sorry to hear your still experiencing the smell.
