Has anyone recently paid Ford to swap out their factory plastic bumper for a factory modular bumper?

Once in stock, assuming I purchase the bumper kit from Ford, and have them do the labor and all associated steps they require, approximately what have you paid?

Going to talk to them today, just curious what others have seen.

I have a 25 bronco outer banks with lux and sasquatch package with the factory plastic bumper.

If you are known to the service department and have had your car serviced there, the easiest way I've found to do that (with my dealer) is to do parts plus actual shop time taken. If they haven't done many, they have to overquote in case it takes longer than expected. They'd install the Hoss 3.0 Fox Ford Performance kit that way for me.

Is doing it yourself not an option? Swapping the bumper out is a pretty straightforward process.

I have no issues installing, but from what I read it requires programming etc at the dealer.

Is this not the case? It looks way easier to install than the expedition one bumper and winch I did my FJ years ago, but it didn't have parking sensors and adaptative cruise and front camera etc.

I just want everything to work and no issues after.

The camera is on your grille and the sensors should be a direct swap right into the new bumper. For context I swapped my capable bumper to an aftermarket bumper with 0 prior experience, just following the directions and watching videos. I know it’s not the same as a modular bumper, though I did have to buy some new tools so that’s always nice!

There is a programming step for swapping bumpers.

But…. two things:

I would not call it “required” as none of the afternarket bumpers do it and it doesn’t do anything obvious - I think it’s just a NHSTA thing for compliance (but don’t know that for a fact)

You could physically install the bumper and have them just do the software change for considerably less - the software takes all of 5 minutes if you do decide to do it, but most shops will have a minimum rate.

Programming step is for the restraint control system... which controls airbags, seatbelts, sensors, etc.

Obviously hitting something with a steel bumper is going to behave differently than hitting something with a plastic bumper, so the calibration is different.

---

As @Brian_B mentioned, none of the aftermarket bumpers have you do a programming step—not like they're working with Ford to develop RCM profiles for their bumpers. But... ya' know... it is a safety thing. So ultimately up to you if you feel it is worth it or not.

I will say that I personally did the programming step, but that's easy for me to say because I have the hardware/software needed to do it myself.

Swapped my modular bumper for an ARB bumper my self with no issues. Maybe the automatic cruise control feature could require a calibration.

I Had a little fender bender with the OBX plastic bumper. Has sensors and the camera above. They replaced the bumper & grill and a headlight. Took the tech guy a good 45 minutes to reprogram all three with his laptop, some people have that skill and some don't. That's the advantage of paying the dealer . . . Or someone! I have too much arthritis to crawl under a car, even when I have some skill. I would ask the dealer ahead of time if they would reprogram it if you do a self install.

You'll want to come up with a replacement for your fog lights. There are several options for that.

@Brian_B and @RagnarKon, are the parking sensor plastic bezels that hold the sensor in the bumper different between the plastic and mod bumpers? I thought they had a slightly different angle to them, but I could be wrong (maybe that is the rear plastic vs steel bumper). Also, are those Mod bumper fasteners standard Torx or are they Torx Plus? I think they are standard Torx.

I replaced my plastic '22 WT w/ Lux bumper with an ADD aftermarket bumper. If you have the tools, some space, and have turned a wrench or two in your life, I'd definitely do this work myself. Just triple check and be sure you have all the screws, brackets and other bits you need before you start. I'm pretty sure I've seen posts on 6G by people that have done this swap, or maybe from the capable bumper, but I'd definitely research that. This site has saved me many-a-headache by learning from others trials and tribulations! In the end, it boosts your sense of ownership, especially if get some blood or smashed fingers in the assembly. :)

Can't speak to the sensor bezels, I don't have them. But I have heard the same as @ThunderFlash - folks swapping may have issues with one of the connectors needing an angle on it? Many people were able to make it work, but with some mod - may want to dig around here some from folks upgrading.

Regarding bolts - almost everything that is T on the Bronco is Torx Plus. Bumper Bronco bolts especially are, and prone to stripping out the head if you don't use Plus

Is the OP really too lazy to look at Ford’s website ? JFC.

It says $188 for installation.
