I was sent to the ICU twice in my moto riding times. Once by a lady who ran a red light in her F150 resulting in a collapsed lung, lacerated liver, severed trachea, broken collarbone.
The other time by a girl in a Subaru who just got her license and t-boned me. Resulting in a broken leg, broken ribs and ruptured spleen. What was nice about that one is the little sweetheart after almost killing me claimed I ran into her.
Witnesses testified otherwise, and of course she was found 100% at fault. But it gives you an idea about the sense of entitlement and lack of remorse from many...
I'm fine now - both times a full face helmet saved me judging by the damage to the helmet! - but I no longer ride because it was bad enough for my family to see me in the ICU once, after the second time that was it.

Good luck and safe travels to all those on two wheels.

Good grief . I have been on two wheels for over forty years and I have seen way more dumb folks in cars hit, bump, cut off motorcycles than the other way around. You have a better chance of being hit by a distracted driver than any rider on a crotch rocket or any other motorcycle. Yes some dumb asses ride to the limit, but generally they are in the minority and natural selection eventually catches up to them.

The wife and I rode cruisers for years before friends talked me into sportbikes when I turned 41 years of age, hence my number . We used to ride the public mountain roads every weekend like it was a racetrack. When I went to the track for the 1st time and saw how far riders slide out into the gravel before coming to a stop I never rode fast on the street again. I kept the sportbikes for the track and went back to cruisers on the road. I miss those days at the track now though, since I'm too old to take those type of risk.
I stopped riding on the street some years ago because my hooligan streak has gotten wider as I have gotten older. I was the Harley guy riding in racing leathers.

I’ve been riding 55+ plus years. Started out at the age of 5. Dirt bikes, trials, flat track, and then sport bikes. That lead to doing stupid stuff on the street. My father insisted I take the hooliganism to the track. I rode on the track exclusively for many years.

I had many get offs. Most with minor injuries. I had 5 high sides. The last one gave me the injury in the picture. For those a little sensitive it’s a little gory.

So I backed off the track stuff and bought a Harley. I ended up back on the track with it. A Road King is not a sport bike but it will hustle thru the corners with the right motivation.

That lead to a Ducati 996 SPS.

I have never been hit by a bike on the street. The track is another story. But I did hit a Toyota that made a left hand turn in front of me. I went over the hood. Just a sore back from that. My street riding days ended about a year later. Now it’s just track days once in a while.

They just made lane filtering legal where I live. I expect a lot more 2 wheelers to get hurt doing so while simultaneously complaining about car drivers.

There's also a push to make lane splitting legal, which is even more stupid.

”legal here” and I have been doing it most my life without issue…done properly it is safer than sitting between tons of metal with drivers not paying attention or noticing motorcycles…rather be in control than a sitting duck…

I'm not sure how surprising a driver by riding up next them just as the light turns green then cutting off the driver mid intersection is "safer". But maybe the 2 wheelers in my town are just particularly stupid?

I think you are missing the "done properly part" but it's clear you've never ridden 🤠

Nn, never ridden. Never claimed I did. All I can do is relate the idiocy I have experienced with riders.

One of the most important things for safety on a roadway is to act predictably. Lane filtering allows & encourages riders to do unpredictable things.

No it doesn't. Put the stupidphone down, put your lipstick on before you leave the house and you're more capable of noticing things going on around you when sitting in traffic.

In some locales, like California, where they've been doing it for decades it is predictable.

The clearest sign of someone who has no point to stand on is the one that attacks someone for merely disagreeing with them. Have a nice life.

I've been riding a few decades now. Only had 2 incidents;

1. Highside when pulling out from work onto a 2-lane highway. It was 26° out. The rear tire hit the stripe and slipped out from under me, tossing me off the bike. Luckily I wasn't hard on the throttle yet and only have a broken left finger with 3 screws to remind me of it.

2. Sitting in traffic and had someone behind me get excited and start moving when the left turn signal turned green. Our light was still red. She bumped into me and caused me to fall over. No damage to the bike. This is why lane filtering should be legal.
